Inbetweeners movie in the works

Film 4 is eyeing a big-screen outing for E4 teen sitcom The Inbetweeners.

Writers Damon Beesley and Iain Morris have confirmed that they are working on a script after receiving an initial commission from Channel 4’s film arm.

The script is likely to centre on an overseas holiday undertaken by suburban sixth-formers Will, Jay, Neil and Simon.

Morris told The Sun: “We always try to make the show as real as we can, and we think the boys of that age tend to go on holiday abroad - we think a film could do justice to that. Most films I understand never get made, but that’s what we’re doing.”

The sitcom was named best comedy at the TV Quick and TV Choice awards earlier this week and Beesley and Morris are currently working on a third series, to be produced by their indie Bwark.

  • oh no - it's bloody terrible and everyone ive spoken to thinks so too, who are these people who watch this lukewarm lame 'comedy'? Probably the same people who like My Family...

  • I'm one of the people who watch this. I'm well outside their target audience age and I think it's hilarious. This and "Outnumbered" are the only decent sitcoms on at the moment.

  • Dear Anonymous - if by everyone you've spoken to, you mean both your friends (i.e. your mum and dad - and even they aren't hugely keen on you) then I suggest you get out more. Inbetweeners is one of the most original comedies in recent years twinning hilarious (if slightly profane) dialogue and a nostalgic but also modern look at teenage friendships and banter. This is reflected by the awards it has picked up over the last few years and also the viewing figures (crossing over from E4 to C4) and ongoing commissions - including the film.

Everyone I have recommended this to has loved it (from fellow 20/30 somethings, to teenages and parents, bosses at work).

I speak on their behalf when I say - Inbetweeners The Movie - bring it on!

  • "Lukewarm, lame comedy... watched by the same people who like My Family" ... "What a knobjockey" - as Jay might say.

  • "Lukewarm, lame comedy... watched by the same people who like My Family" ... "What a knobjockey" - as Jay might say. - Ha, ha, pure class!

"who are these people who watch this lukewarm lame 'comedy'? Probably the same people who like My Family..."

Me. I watch it and so do my other eraly 20-something mates. My younger brother and sister and their friends enjoy it as well. Even my Grandad claimed laughed about an episode he caught last month, and he's quite snobby and old fashioned about comedy.

I don't watch My Family, though. What an arrogant presumption! I think My Family is a terrible show with rubbish cliched characters and weak storylines relying on gag after gag for their laughs.

  • Well then all of you must like lame 'comedy' .

"Dear Anonymous - if by everyone you've spoken to, you mean both your friends (i.e. your mum and dad - and even they aren't hugely keen on you) then I suggest you get out more."

-That is just incredibly rude and unessesary - how dare you speak to people like that just because they have a different opinion to you?! There was a line and you truelly crossed it.

  • To the above poster,

You're entitled to your opinion - it's great that everybody has different tastes; though I do object to your remark: "who are these people..." I think this phrase suggests that you have a supercillious attitude that everyone who doesn't conform to your comedic standards/ideals is "lame".

I agree that the other anonymous poster was rude to you; but you were equally rude. The only difference being 'they' were explicit and directed it to you: your comment didn't use colourful adjectives but I think it shows that you prejudice against people and have stereotypes in your mind based on people's viewing habits (and goodness knows what else).

"how dare you speak to people like that just because they have a different opinion to you?!" Interesting that you say that, because let's revisit your first comment and you have clearly demonstrated that in your superior world, people who enjoy My Family and The Inbetweeners are "lame" and beneath you. That mindset is far more worrying - and gives greater cause to feel insulted by - than the poster who made that facetious remark towards you.

  • I think you'll find that the original poster said that the TV shows were lame not the people who watch them.
