Roughly 80 props and related objects from the six "Star Wars" films are included in the traveling exhibit, "Star Wars: Where Science Meets Imagination," runs at the Anchorage Museum Feb. 10 through April 25. In addition to the props, video footage and a number of related classes, talks and special children's programs, the exhibit comes with a number of ultra-cool hands-on exhibits.
More than 50 artists from Alaska and beyond contributed to the International Gallery of Contemporary Art’s Object/Runway fashion show at The Anchor Pub last Saturday. The garments are now all installed at the International Gallery of Contemporary Art (427 D St.) and will be on display until Feb. 27. .
Paratroopers return from Afghanistan
Paratroopers from the 4th Brigade Combat Team (Airborne), 25th Infantry Division were welcomed home to Fort Richardson Sunday morning. They came back from a year long deployment in Afghanistan.

Alaska Army National Guard soldiers from the 1st Battalion, 207th Aviation Regiment, were reunited with friends and family at the Alaska National Guard armory at Camp Denali on Fort Richardson on Tuesday, Nov. 17, 2009, after a year-long deployment where they supported peacekeeping and peace enforcement missions in Kosovo.

Marc Hoffmeister, who was injured by a roadside bomb in Iraq in 2007, gave the keynote address during a Veterans and Remembrance Day ceremony in the Alaska National Guard armory at Fort Richardson on Veterans Day, Nov. 11, 2009. New York City-based artist Maria Yoon performed a wedding ceremony with help from Emil Churchin, who stood in as her momentary husband, at Kincaid Park on Saturday, December 26, 2009. This was the 43rd "wedding" Yoon has participated in - each in a different state - as part of her project called "Maria the Korean Bride." Yoon said the performance project began as a way to rebel against the expectations of her parents, but evolved over 8 years to be a study into how Americans view marriage and love. The project will be edited into a documentary, she says.
Retired doctor Bill Compton recently completed his seventh round-trip flight to the Hawaiian islands when he returned to Merrill Field in Anchorage on Thursday, Oct. 15, 2009. Compton was injured in a motorcycle accident eight years ago and he thought that was the end of his flying career. He now uses hand controls to operate the rudder and brakes of his 1966 Beechcraft Bonanza V35TC.

Newly released aerial photos of the World Trade Center terror attack capture the towers' dramatic collapse, from just after the first fiery plane strike to the apocalyptic dust clouds that spread over lower Manhattan and its harbor.The images were taken from a police helicopter — the only photographers allowed in the air space near the towers on Sept. 11, 2001. They were obtained by ABC News after it filed a Freedom of Information Act request last year with the National Institute of Standards and Technology, which investigated the collapse.
