EAGLE -- Flood-ravaged homes being rebuilt in Eagle are due to be powered up by October, the state Department of Military and Veterans Affairs said Friday.
Flood waters carrying slabs of ice, caused by ice jams forming on the Yukon River during breakup, destroyed 13 homes in Eagle in early May. The barrage also took out power poles and lines, leaving most people without electricity, according to the DMVA.
The homes are being rebuilt in an area several miles away that is less susceptible to flooding, but building in the new location required substantial improvements to the power delivery infrastructure, the agency said.
The work is being funded by a combination of private, federal and state sources.
