Bright colors and embellishments infused the spring 2010 collections of designers Carlos Miele and Tracy Reese. NY1's Samantha Liebman filed the following report.

Designer Carlos Miele brings Rio de Janeiro to Bryant Park with his latest spring collection for Fashion Week.

"Rio de Janeiro is a city that I love, my favorite city in the world," says Miele. "And I brought the African-Brazilian dreadlocks on the clothes in silk, and we brought all the lights from the sunset and rise."

The many colors in the silk chiffon mini-dresses and long, flowing gowns reflect that, going from guava and pink-colored layers to darker purples.

Miele says he was inspired by the beaches and the slums of Rio, where women do handwork like the beading. There are plenty other couture touches, from the silk dreadlock-embellished boleros to what is called "fuchico" detail.

"It's a very traditional handcraft in Brazil. It's called fuchico, or 'gossip,' because when they're preparing those, they are talking about someone else's life," says Miele.

The pieces are so luxurious and unique, consumers will feel like they're living the life of a girl from Ipanema. The graphic prints, based on photos Miele took on Rio's beaches, are splashed on the silk and stretch-charmeuse dresses and chiffon blouses.

Meanwhile, designer Tracy Reese takes her color cues from the artwork of Pierre Bonnard, with tones of goldenrod, passion fruit, periwinkle, honeydew and pear. But no matter the color or print, which ranges from geometric to floral, Reese wants her clothes to be comfortable.

"I think this collection brings is a new relaxed attitude," says Reese. "It's really easy to wear, even if it's shapely or form-fitted."

Fabrics are soft, from jersey to tulle-flaired dresses, form-fitting stretch pencil skirts to loose silk pants. That's why a legion of famous fans came out to support her.

"I love that I put this on and I felt like 'bam!' Because we had a very eventful evening last night," says actor Gabrielle Union.

"I love her collections. I've worn her stuff for years," says reality TV star Kim Kardashian. "She makes clothes that fit real women, real curves, you know."

Yet comfort doesn't mean sacrificing details.

"There's a lot of embellishment. There's a kind of circular feeling that runs throughout the collection, whether it's a polka-dot print or a oval applique or a spiral effect in an embroidery," says Reese.

It's a collection that's both elegant and casual.
