A singer who made it big on Broadway is taking on songs from the silver screen in her latest album venture. NY1's Stephanie Simon filed the following report.

Songstress Linda Eder made a splash over 10 years ago starring in Broadway's "Jekyll and Hyde." Now, Eder is the one showing off her alter ego musically with a new cd and concert taking on great songs from film, aptly titled, "Soundtrack."

"We do things like 'Help' from the Beatles because my son who's 10 loves the Beatles and we do a slower version, Eder said. "Apparently John Lennon wrote it as a ballad, so we have a cool version, sort of mid tempo. I do 'I can't help falling in love.' They wanted an Elvis song so we did that one. 'If I can't have you' from 'Saturday Night Fever.'"

Eder will be performing selections from "Soundtrack" along with some Broadway favorites at Town Hall on October 17 as part of a three day Broadway Cabaret Festival.

"I love to play in Manhattan obviously. I've played in some amazing places in the city, exciting places and Town Hall I played years ago was one of my first New York shows," Eder said. "It's great to come back. It's great to come back with a brand new record. I'm really excited about this music and I think we're putting seven of the new singles in."

Eder at one time was married to Broadway wunderkind, Frank Wildhorn, who wrote music for her. But as far as returning to the Broadway stage, Eder is waiting for the right project.

"There are some things in the works," Eder said. "I know Frank is always working on many things and there's one in particular that I'm kind of interested in, I think it's a score that I really like and a part I like. So I can't really say when or how but I have a feeling somewhere down the road it will happen."

As for the future, Eder still has another side of her personality she would like to explore. She's hoping to do a straight play. But singing great songs will always be the soundtrack of her life.
