I have a persecution complex. I'm afraid of speaking my truth. I don't believe in mainstream. I'm not impressed with fluff or fun or fanfare.
All too often, however, spirituality reinforces rather than transcends conventional limits, boundaries, and notions of the ego. Sandwiched in between manicures and lunch dates, the quickie yoga class becomes just another way to augment and reinforce the self.
The Queens GOP will not replace Pagan high priest Dan Halloran as their candidate for District 19 City Councilor. Quips a Wiccan: "Move over Christian right, here come the Pagans."
In Rabbi Sacks's estimation, much of what he sees in the United States as religious practice is far superior to what's happening in England.
Alabama's crusade against sex toys began as an effort by State Sen. Tom Butler to ban nude dancing. Why Butler objected to a naked foxtrot is not clear, but even he admits that his effort spiraled out of hand.
Would Ben Stein hear out Ahmadinejad on the Holocaust the way Glenn Beck heard Stein out on his anti-evolution film? Fair and balanced, anyone?
Day One: Let there B-lite. OMG! Or shld I say Oh Me! It's so much easier 2-C now. WTF was I thinking B4? Spent the rest of the day dividing lite from drkness. It is good. :-)
In the coming months, America will become a minority Protestant nation for the first time since the Pilgrims. Non-believers now represent the third-highest group of Americans, after Catholics and Baptists.
Still a small offshoot of the Catholic Church, the Ecumenical Catholic Communion estimates that it has about 2,500 members nationwide, one-fifth or more in Colorado -- and it ordains women.
Heirloom tomatoes, ratatouille and butternut squash soup for Rosh Hashannah: The holiday brings home quiet moments in our lives that are otherwise jammed with obligations and fast meals.
Rather than confront the stereotypes and misunderstandings that have led to widely held negative views, most Muslim Americans seem to have gone into hiding and decided not to participate in American political life.
A trip to a mosque in Harlem and a church in the Bronx: there are no easy answers in religion, especially when mixed with nationhood.
A former White House counsel discovered that the harassment his sons faced as Jewish cadets was far from an isolated problem, but part of the fundamentalist Christian takeover of the Air Force Academy.
They say the best offense is a good defense. Our only real defense against right wing insanity is to put them on the defense and keep them there.
You can't practice Judaism with your grandfather's heart but must approach these days with a new, fresh, different and vibrant style that speaks to someone who lives and struggles in the 21st Century.
Look, like everyone else I have no trouble dismissing creationists as bat-shit crazy religious fundamentalists who wouldn't know a scientific fact if ...
As a child, religions seemed to me a way of separating people, and in the aftermath of the eighth anniversary of 9/11, it doesn't look a whole lot different to me now.
In the fantastical world of fundamentalist religiopolitics, it is acceptable for Glenn Beck to call Obama a racist, but not acceptable to question the racial motives behind the frighteningly ignorant attacks on Obama.
Living in a conservative society, I can understand that there would be quite a few people who would be offended by those publicly breakfasting during the days of Ramadan.
YouTube, like the Internet at large, is what the Holy Land would have been like during the Crusades if everyone in the Holy Land had too much free time on their hands.

as a catholic, I already sent an email to my bishop telling him that this failure to bak health care reform is going to be another shameful chapter in the life of a church that is filled with so many. I believe that in the end, the catholic church with claims to support healing has failed its flock in the same it did in the struggle against slavery and child abuse and will end up marginalizing it relevance

Anyway, this kind of stuff was okay during the Bush years when it was encouraged by Rove and his minions and put into play by all the churches - political activism in the name of republicanism is okay; bad when it is the dems (and especially anything to do with Obama).
Separation of church and state is good - get rid of the Faith Based initiative office in Washington and get rid of the tax-exempt status for all religions/churches. That will put an end to their interfering in matters of state.
They could have been bipartisan and invited a pub speaker to talk about hate, failure, and no solutions.
Non-profits are getting a bit more antsy lately about political stuff they are 'sponsoring'
The second they start doing anything remotely political they risk loosing their status as a non-profit that can take tax-deductible donations. And with today's hyper-political climate where everybody is willing to send an email or make a phone call if they are mad about something the risk is just too high to take.
501.3.c organizations should be taxed at a ridiculous rate for any property over their primary meeting and outreach grounds. Also on any money left over after they do their charitable works.
