MAKHACHKALA, September 14 (RIA Novosti) - Three suspected militants have been killed in a shootout with police in Russia's North Caucasus Republic of Dagestan, a spokesman for the republic's interior ministry said on Monday.
The incident occurred late on Sunday, when police attempted to stop a vehicle for a routine check. The driver failed to stop his vehicle and a chase subsequently occured. During the pursuit, shots were fired at the police vehicle and officers returned fire.
"The driver and his two passengers were killed in the shootout, no casualties among the officers have been reported," the spokesman said.
One of the gunmen has been put on the federal wanted list over the incident. The identity of the others involved is being established.
