An off-duty firefighter is in critical condition after he was beaten by a group of people, reportedly while defending his girlfriend's honor.
Police say Matthew Dugan, 34, got into an altercation with two men and a woman near the Staten Island Ferry Terminal early yesterday morning.
The fight happened after the group reportedly laughed when Dugan's girlfriend tripped.
Dugan is a three-year veteran of the FDNY, who works out of Ladder 15 near South Street Seaport.
He was taken to New York Downtown Hospital.
Police are said to be reviewing surveillance video, but have not yet made any arrests.
