myMYM takes a look into the mind of one of North Americas most well known players, JohnnyUtah regarding his history in e-sports, Heroes of Newerth and the American scene

egsanjoseHaving played DotA since 2003, United State- Remstar (aka JohnnyUtah) has been involved with some of the world's best American teams, including eMg/EG. Once an admin for the worlds top Inhouse League, IDEC, he has made innumerable contributions to the DotA community.

JohnnyUtah was given the nickname N'aix, for his dominating use of the hero Lifestealer during the 6.52e era, which helped bring his team, The Pouncing Liger to be one of the biggest forces of the version.

Today, myMYM,com takes a look into the mind of one of North Americas most well known players, JohnnyUtah regarding his history in e-sports, Heroes of Newerth and the American scene.

Hi, mind giving us a brief introduction of yourself?
Hi, I'm JohnnyUtah, most famous for playing N'aix, previously of team eMg/EG, currently playing with my friends in Team Pokerstars.

Are you guys officially sponsored by Pokerstars or is it just a name?
It's just a name, we are currently unsponsored.

Any plans to get sponsored, or just cruising along?
Nope, just cruising.

Mind telling us the current lineup of Team Pokerstars?
Me, mO,Fanat1c, AMXZaku, Mikey and our manager kr4zed_j0o.

What are your plans for Poker stars? What leagues and tournaments are you guys currently playing in? We havent seen alot from you guys lately, Whats the deal?
We're just a group of friends playing and owning at the moment. We try to play in all the leagues available, but there is a somewhat recent shortage of them as of late; most recently we've been competing in Cevo-P and the Pride of America tourney, and just inhouse leagues/scrims.

Speaking of CEVO, How do you feel about the re-emergence of American leagues, with CEVO, Pride of America and Clash of the Elephants now taking place. America started the competitive dota scene with IGS and CAL, and for awhile there we had nothing, your opinions on this?
I think it's better for the game obviously, and more opportunities, since we now see a lot more american teams (SUP, DoP, FyC, Pz, Edge).

If Matt Marcou does indeed organize more NA Lans, will you and your team be attending?
Yes, I do believe we will be.

There have been rumors about you trying to organise a HoN tournament, do you think that HoN will be dota's successor?
Yes, I do. The game is progressing along nicely, and once it comes closer to launch and the balance is more solid, hopefully we can see HoN being played by more DotA players.

Speaking of which have you played LoL? What are your opinions of it? Do you prefer HoN or LoL?
I played it a few times, not enough to form a precise opinion but personally I prefer HoN simply because of its similarity to DotA.

What do you do other then own at DotA? Is it easy to balance that with practicing as a team and playing matches?
I just recently finished school, and just been having fun going out with friends, playing poker and so on. DotA doesn't really take up much time since we are all quite experienced and have played the game for quite a while, so it is easy to fit in scrims or matches whenever people are free.

Have you heard that EG is going to SMM this year? Any comments on that?
I wish them the best of luck at the event, I'm sure the competition will be extremely tough.

So onto the origins of Remstar, how did you first begin playing video games competitively?
That's quite a long story. A short summary would be me playing competitive solo war3 ladder (RoC/TFT), moving on to semi-competitive Counter-Strike, moving on to DotA (started playing DotA around 2003/2004). I became quite good at it, then quit for 2-3 years or so. When I came back, Naz and Hit0Mi introduced me to IHCS, started playing there to shake off the rust, met Whisper who invited me to Verge/eMg, and the rest is history.

A source told me that you used to play Guild Wars, is that true? Because I was wondering if you had heard of the upcoming release of Guild Wars 2, any thoughts?
Ah yes, I played that competitively as well, ended up attending their 2nd World Championship in Leipzig, Germany with my team at the time, quite a fun experience. I actually still play DotA/HoN pubs with a couple of friends from Guild Wars. On Guild Wars 2, I'm not sure what to expect though it has some interesting concepts. We will see when it comes out I guess.

Well to wrap this up, how about some favorites. Just responded with whatever comes to mind.
