Hawaii dream home being auctioned -- no minimum bid required

It's tough even at the top too you know. Unable to sell their homes the conventional way, the owners of two luxury homes in Hawaii have decided to put them on the block -- and let the market decide how much they are worth.

The properties, at the Four Seasons Resort Hualalai on Hawaii's Big Island, were previously offered at $10.3 million and $9.1 million, but they are going to be auctioned on August 10 with no minimum bid required.

The $10.3 million property, at 72-151 Lau'eki Street, is a 4,600 sq ft five-bedroom, five-bathroom home with 1,300 sq ft of covered lanais. It is sited on a 25,000 lot. The $9.1 million property, right nearby at 72-155 Lau'eki Street, is slightly smaller -- with four bedrooms and four bathrooms -- and has a two-plus car garage. Both homes have views over the Pacific ocean and feature a custom-designed swimming pool with infinity edge and integrated spa, covered entry with zen garden, outdoor kitchen, and a private outdoor shower garden.

"The owner is committed to the immediate sale... and has made a decision to allow the bidders to establish value," according to the auction's news release.

So what's the catch, I hear you ask. Could one of these homes sell for, say $50,000? Well, probably not, given that a $100,000 deposit via wired or certified funds is necessary to bid. You can attend the auction in Hawaii or bid remotely.
