Spaced - The Crooked Jades
You don't have to travel out side of San Francisco if you're looking for backwoods. Close your eyes and listen to The Crooked Jades and you'll be at a mountain hoe-down in the Sierras, drinking jug wine, eating mushrooms and having a panic attack because you haven't heard a siren or a gun shot on a Saturday night.
The Crooked Jades
There's something that has me excited about stringed instruments. The Denver sound turned me around with their 16 Horsepower and Munly's projects and of course The Dirty Three (from Australia). It took bands outside of San Francisco to make me appreciate all things fiddle and how there's a punk rock-ness to it.
On their MySpace page they do commit music blasphemy by saying someone compared them to Nick Cave and Tom Waits. No way in hell.
But, we'll let that go since The Crooked Jades are a great foot-stompin' party band.
Check them out at Cafe du Nord on August 11th.
Nick Cave is my twin because we both have mustaches.
