Do not expect Buster Posey to wear a Giants uniform in 2009. Amid word that Posey will play for Team USA in the biennial baseball World Cup in September, Giants general manager Brian Sabean said he had no plans to promote last year's first-round draft pick when rosters expand, anyway.

"He just got out of college last year. There's no rush," Sabean said. "He'll be totally evaluated at the end of the year. Let's let him get through this year."

Posey struggled early in his call-up to Triple-A Fresno but has raised his average to .289 with four homers, 14 RBIs and a .917 OPS in 83 at-bats.

Word in some scouting circles has Posey behind defensively. Sabean disputed that, saying, "He's way, way ahead of most catchers as the position goes. He's doing great. He's doing above average, as far as we're concerned, in all phases behind the plate."

Sabean could not confirm that Posey will play in the World Cup, saying he is awaiting USA Baseball's announcement of the roster, but said the experience would be great for any player who goes.

Cain, Wright meet: David Wright has no issues with Matt Cain. Wright said so to Cain when they met briefly at Citi Field on Monday and to reporters.

"He's always been friendly, so I knew there was no intent," Wright said of Saturday's beaning, which gave the third baseman a concussion and landed him on the disabled list.

"He said he understood," Cain said. "It was an accident."

Cain encountered Wright while running on the field before batting practice. A TV camera captured their meeting, which ended with a handshake.

Briefly: Pablo Sandoval committed two throwing errors but said sore ribs from a collision with a dugout rail Sunday were not a factor. ... Aaron Rowand's homer was his first in 99 at-bats.
