Thanks to the support of generous corporate sponsors and loyal readers, The News NIE provides eEditions of the newspaper, free of cost to classrooms*, for use as supplementary resources for educators and students of all ages. These eEditions are exact replicas of The News and can be accessed six days per week (Sunday-Friday), or 5 days per week (Monday – Friday). These newspapers are “living texts,” primary documents that encourage learning. The paper is thus used as a teaching tool to help students of all ages - elementary through college levels - to make vital connections between classroom activities and today’s events – local, national and international.

The News provides ample material applicable across the curriculum. The NIE Program features daily integrated Curriculum pages focusing on math, science, social studies, diversity issues, democracy, language arts, life skills and health. Also accessible online are unique curriculum guides to provide customized lesson plans and activities for teachers. These help to create an innovative learning/teaching experience, using newspapers.

The News NIE Program is acknowledged in educational circles as being among the best classroom resources. Our program was honored this year nationally by the NAA (Newspaper Association of America) Foundation for Program Excellence, and the director was awarded the NYCATE (New York City Association of Teachers of English) Media Literacy Award in 2007-2008.
