Berman produces a deft juggling trick of heart and humor, balancing Deb's shallowness with some solid common sense and Jane's inadequate self-esteem with kindness and legal brilliance.

What freshness exists in Sunday's premiere is largely due to Elliott, who's playing a character whose head(s) and heart(s) aren't yet fully synchronized.

The series has humor and charm beneath its facile message, in large part (no disrespect intended) to a subtle, winning performance by Ms. Elliott.

Against all odds, that turns out to be an odd-couple combo that results in a light, fun series--ideal fizzy entertainment for summer.

While it sounds pedantic, downright corny, and done to death, Drop Dead Diva is actually fun, funny and sometimes and in some ways even touching.

Here's a series that has a strong cast, great writing and what could prove to be an enlightened exploration of body and self image.

Some of the lessons are laid on a bit thick. But the cast, including April Bowlby as Deb's best friend, Ben Feldman as her guardian angel, and Jackson Hurst as her boyfriend, sells them with a minimum of fuss and a light touch.

As Deb-inside-Jane, Elliott does a great job portraying pathos, absurd disappointment, and wide-eyed discovery. She’s far more interesting to watch than the other characters.

Despite all this talent and potential, stereotypes about body image--fat and skinny--are layered on so thick that it's hard to see this show as changing anyone's minds.

Diva has potential, but just as when the revived Jane first squeezes into Deb's old clothes, it's an awkward fit.

it's still feeling like a pasted-together assortment of ideas and plot lines from productions past.

Ron C gave it a10:
Very interesting and very good acting.
Rachel J gave it a9:
This show was so entertaining. I love the combination of smart plain Jane and the shallow model.
El J gave it a9:
Loved the show and I feel that if it continues to be as good if not better, this will be a great show to watch.
Kevin M gave it a10:
I love this show. Its fortunate that FOX passed on the pilot because that network would have been a horrible fit for this little show with big heart. Lifetime made a good move picking this series up and you'll make a good move to by checking it out on Sunday nights.
Rita M gave it a10:
Brooke Elliott is a joy to watch. With an eclectic cast of characters who are wonderful in their own right, the show provides ligiht-hearted and touching entertainment that left me wanting more. The subtle complexities of having to portray two separate characters showcases Ms. Elliott's obvious talents as an actress. I hope to be seeing more of her in the future. Kudos, Lifetime, for bringing us a fun show on my favorite channel.
