GEOGRAPHICAL POSITION

Municipality Ribnik is placed in North-West part of Republic of Srpska and is one of border area municipalities of North-West parts of Republic of Srpska .

Size : Municipality Ribnik Covers 507 square km of area and according to this data, it takes 23 rd place regarding size of all municipalities in Republic of Srpska . From geographic point of view mountain Dinara and rivers Sana and Ribnik give this area extraordinary impression.

Hydrograph : There are sources of two mountain rivers Sana and Ribnik as well as smaller river Stanicka and Banjica in territory of municipality. The western parts of mountain area are very rich with numerous sources of drinking water. Many of these sources are untouched. Heterogeneous litho logic composition, tectonic structure and influence of fluvial erosion caused extreme large division of relief. Retaining of snow cover to start of summer has positive effect on river supply with fresh water and intensive growth of conifer trees. The most of inhabited areas and industrial capacities are located in river Sana valley. Other land in surrounding area is plough land, wood complex, meadows, pastures or forest bare mountainous terrain.

Relief : Approximately 70 % of municipality Ribnik is hilarious-mountainous area which means it is placed on altitude of 500 m or more. The rest of area is placed around river flows. The mountains Dimitor, Sisa, Lisina, Osoje and Manjaca which belongs to medium size mountains make majority of above mentioned territory which is completely covered by forests and huge mountain meadows Crkveno, Resenovaca, Jarciste, sides of Dimitor Mountain and Manjaca Plato. Municipality is very rich with woods, water and untouched nature. Forests cover 38000 hectares or 64 % of Ribnik municipality, which means that this municipality participates with 13 % of all Republic of Srpska forest fond. In forest complex all kind of trees can be found and the most significant are high forest of fir and juniper tree due to geographic weather conditions and soil characteristics. Regarding deciduous forests there can be found beech, maple, elm, European ash, and lime tree. Significant part of this municipality is covered by low bush and forests with big plantations of evergreen cultures basically with pine trees and less with arise.

Clime : Is mostly medium continental above all in lower altitudes where the summer are hotter and withers are softer, which is completely opposite in higher altitudes. The quantity of rainfalls in one year period is sometimes more than 1000 mm. The areas with high altitude have mountain clime which means that winters are very cold with a lot of snow falls which on certain areas stays till month of June.
