A splendid late 1930s pub with some parts of its sleek, up-to-the-minute interior remaining. It is prominently sited on a corner site and is the epitome of what inter-war pub-builders were seeking to achieve - a place for civilised drinking and entertainment which would appeal to young and old, men and women. The main entrance leads to an internal porch with a lovely timber and glass screen. Behind this is a lobby with woodwork that looks as though it would have been at home on an ocean liner or an up-market '30s cinema. It still retains its original counter and bar back. The HB circular 'plaques' refer to Home Brewery. The brewery offices still stand a few hundred metres up the A60. Listed grade II.

The public bar on the left has its own entrance lobby and retains old fixed seating in the bay window but the bar counter and half panelling are new. To the right is the lounge with old fixed seating in the bay window. At the rear is a small children's room partly opened-up in 2004 which has no old fittings. Has a noteable inn sign at the top of a stone column on a plinth. When it opened it actually had five bar counters - those just in the lounge on the right and the rear room were removed in the early 1970s.
