Digital Gadgets #6,8,9

Digital Gadgets #6,8,9

Artist : KUWAKUBO Ryota

[Summary]This work fundamentally altered the existing concept of still pictures. By turning the familiar daily space into a sphere, it has generated a world that no one had ever seen. I was deeply impressed with the author's flexible idea and expressions that have turned a familiar, ordinary world into a new, out-of-the-ordinary world that reminds us of the universe. This work has taught us that a new world could be generated not by resorting to animation or interactive works, but by changing a creator's viewpoint and applying digital techniques. This work marked a significant milestone for the future of digital arts.

FINAL FANTASY CRYSTAL CHRONICLES

FINAL FANTASY CRYSTAL CHRONICLES

Artist : SQUARE ENIX CO., LTD.
/Nintendo Development team

[Summary]Equipped with a new mode called Multi Play Mode, this work enables four players to simultaneously participate in the game via Game Boy Advance. Finished workmanship in both graphics and music is of top quality suitable as a work representing the year 2003 and operations fully tuned to a controller are also smooth and nice. With a story containing a dream, players can enjoy the narrative feature of a role-play game to the full. This is a game with well-balanced fusion of all elements that deserves the Grand Prize.

Animation Division

Winter Days

Winter Days

Artist : KAWAMOTO Kihachiro

[Summary]There have been many attempts to create full-length animation by combining short animation, a relatively free and personal expression unit. On the other hand, this work successfully constructed a piece of full-length animation, which inevitably entailed a clear distinction from those of past attempts by adopting uniquely Japanese "renku" (a linked series of Japanese poems composed by two or more people) as a cohesive rule that links works tending to become disintegrated due to different styles and methods. This work was the most remarkable feat of this year in that it broke new ground for the new potential of short animation that tends to be restricted in number of expression forms due to its short length, and in that it contributed to the development of Japanese culture via expression medium of animation. In particular, we wish that those who do not usually see short animation would get to see this gorgeous contest of top artists. BACK

KAJIMUNUGATAI

KAJIMUNUGATAI

Artist : HIGA Susumu

[Summary]Once you start reading this episode on Battle of Okinawa, a carefully drawn piece of work based on close research, it captures your attention and leaves an unforgettable impression on you. This is not a simple reproduction of a past event, but is a story about the most fundamental matters handed down to the present Japanese. This well-defined series of short stories wastes no space for verbosity. The quiet and subdued description has strong power, persuasiveness, and profound meaning, which makes readers want to come back and read it again and again. The fact that such a work has appeared is of great significance.
