He was born in Brooklyn, New York, in 1952. After three years as a graduate student in Jewish history at Harvard University, he was a member of the Society of Fellows at Harvard from 1979 to 1982. He also attended Columbia University and Oxford University.

Ruth Franklin started at The New Republic as assistant managing editor in July 1999, became associate literary editor in February 2001, and a senior editor in October 2003. A Baltimore native, she received a B.A. in English from Columbia University in 1995 and an M.A. in comparative literature from Harvard University in 1998.

John B. Judis, a senior editor at The New Republic, has been a contributor since 1982. He received his B.A. in 1963 and his M.A. in 1965 from the University of California at Berkeley. An active member of SDS and the left of the Sixties, he taught philosophy at Berkeley and at the San Francisco Art Institute.

Special Online Projects Manager Sacha Zimmerman has worked or written for The New Republic since 2001. She currently writes the "Inner Tube" column for TNR Online and is a Contributing Editor at Reader's Digest. Formerly, Sacha was the assistant managing editor at TNR, and she penned the "Pulps" column for TNR Online.

Joshua Kurlantzick
Special Correspondent
Special Correspondent Joshua Kurlantzick joined The New Republic as foreign editor in October 2002. He is also a visiting scholar in the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace’s China Program, where he focuses on China and Asia, and a contributing writer for Mother Jones. Additionally, Kurlantzick is currently a fellow at the USC School of Public Diplomacy and the Pacific Council on International Policy. Kurlantzick's articles also have appeared in The New York Times Magazine, Rolling Stone, Foreign Affairs, Harper's, and The Atlantic Monthly, among others.
