THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION. Released the same year when people were comparing life to a friggen box of chocolates, this film got slapped in the face at the Oscars (along with PULP FICTION I might add) by a guy named Gump more times than a dominatrix on a bad date. Later on down the line though, Forrest would stop running in the hearts and minds of movie lovers, and instead, THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION (and PULP FICTION) would eventually be considered the greater film.

Quick. You’re in a cubicle. Your computer glares at your eyes like a mirror in the sun, and the loud chatter from the phone reps next to you cause slight tremors in your ears. You peek above the cubicle wall to see Bill Lumbergh in the distance, approaching your desk like a shark smelling blood. You sit back down, wondering if what you just saw was real and if a bathroom break is necessary at this point in time.

Christopher Garetano’s SOUTH TEXAS BLUES is the epitome of the term “passion project.” In some sort of development and preproduction for years now, the story, initially intended as a movie, will finally see the light of day this October in a graphic novel adapted from Garetano’s original screenplay about the production of a horror-film landmark.

Oh how the mighty have fallen. What was once quality television has now become paper for the fire. For five seasons, ANGEL was a cult hit amongst Buffy fans and for me, those who kinda liked Buffy, but didn’t like the whole “girly attitude” about it. ANGEL was the man, beating up the bad guys, taking names and sometimes babes, and just entertaining the hell out of us wannabe vampires. As for the comic book? It’s in my bathroom right now, ready to be used as emergency toilet paper.

When we last mentioned BOOM! STUDIOS' comic book partnership with 20th Century Fox, it was the announcement that BOOM! and Fox Atomic would be bringing a new series of 28 WEEKS LATER books into the print realm. Shortly after that, it was announced that FOX would be shuttering the Fox Atomic division in a move to consolidate operations. Today, BOOM! released their preview of new titles for August, one of which is a graphic novel based on the Megan Fox-starrer JENNIFER'S BODY. The preview image is listed as "not final art" and still bears the "Fox Atomic" logo, but while that division may face an uncertain future, the relationship between Fox and BOOM! is just getting started.
