FANGORIA CHAINSAW AWARDS: 2009

After a few years’ absence, the FANGORIA Chainsaw Awards are back in their original format, giving you the chance to vote for the best genre films, filmmakers and actors from the past year. There was such a bumper crop of good stuff released in 2008 that narrowing down the nominees to five in certain categories was truly tough; a couple of movies (most notably SPLINTER) will wait till next year when they’ve gotten more DVD exposure.

WORST FILM
We’ll leave this one up to you (2008 releases only):

After countless sleepless nights of intense deliberation, I hereby decree that the one individual (no movies) most deserving of induction into the FANGORIA Hall of Fame is:

A number of the nominees were involved in movies released by Anchor Bay Entertainment, which released statements from a few of them. “I was totally surprised to hear that I was nominated for a Best Actor Chainsaw Award, especially when I saw who was in my category!” says THE LOST’s Senter. “I remember going to the Awards in 2006 with my buddy Ti West and having a total blast, but secretly wishing I was in on the action. I guess I am now! Much love and respect to the folks at Fango for being so supportive of THE LOST. You guys are amazing and we really appreciate it.”

“Eliza Dushku went to difficult, dark places,” says ALPHABET KILLER director Rob Schmidt. “She exposed herself and made herself really vulnerable for her role. I’m proud of her work and I’m very pleased that it is being acknowledged by FANGORIA’s nomination.”

“JACK BROOKS was a fun project to make and I am really proud of the whole experience,” says star/producer Trevor Matthews, whose film ties with HELLBOY II for the most overall noms. “To be recognized and supported for the work everyone did, is very rewarding. I guess now, we will have to keep making movies!” We wouldn’t have it any other way.
