Almost a TRUE BLOOD Vampire...

TRUE BLOOD - SEASON 2Like many of my fellow Fango Family bloggers, I've decided that it's time to talk about one of my other "crafts." Back when I blogged regularly on my MySpace page, I had a tradition of blogging about my various creative endeavors, especially the auditions that I'd have while wearing my "actor" hat. The fun ones to write about were usually "the one's that got away" (like the Larry the Cable Guy film WITLESS PROTECTION), as they usually had a good story to go with them.

With that, I've decided to resurrect my tradition right here on my FANGORIA.com blog.

*UPDATED* - You know what they say...

James ZahnUPDATED: 5/6/2009 - I have received a response to my original posting, and with the author's permission have included it on this post. We're not out to have a "war", so my final thoughts are posted below. - JZ

Imitation in the the film industry is certainly not a new thing. The "killer asteroid" craze with ARMAGEDDON and DEEP IMPACT facing off in the summer of '98;  the dueling "president's daughter" films CHASING LIBERTY and FIRST DAUGHTER in 2004; the recent "organ repo" phase with last year's REPO! THE GENETIC OPERA, and the upcoming REPOSESSION MAMBO (due later this year) - it's often times a race to see who can get to the finish line first.

Sometimes, "imitation" is purely a business-related affair, driven by corporate shills with no motivation other than getting in on the action to make a grab at a pie they think that they're missing out on. Bitter because they didn't get there first, often times these said "imitators" resort to blatant "copying", perhaps to play "catch up", or perhaps because they have no original ideas of their own. While the film industry is a prime example to use while setting up this blog, I'm not here to talk about FILM, but about MUSIC. There's someone out there that's crossed the line, and tonight I'm calling them out.

Another look at REPO! THE GENETIC OPERA

REPO!Last week, word came down that Lionsgate is sending REPO! THE GENETIC OPERA back out to select theatres for a series of midnight screenings slated to run all the way into July. Last night, I got an email informing me that a few new theatres were just added to the run. As I put the email in a folder for potential "news", a weird vibe that  I'd felt in the past returned to haunt me once more.

Are horror fans supposed to like REPO! by default?

A Holiday thought...

The Horror Community has always been known for being a charitable crowd. Sure, the public may not always see us that way, but as long as we continue to do what is right, then that's all that really matters.

VH1's SCREAM QUEEN not a horror fan?

Last night VH1 crowned the winner of it's first SCREAM QUEENS series, with Tanedra Howard claiming the throne. Oddly enough, Ms. Howard has already started making the kind of statements that actors usually reserve for after they've built their careers on horror.
