SHORT CUTS #4: INSATIABLE

068If you were lucky enough to attend Fango’s recently wrapped Weekend of Horrors, you hopefully were also fortunate enough to check out the phenomenal short INSATIABLE, which screened on Sunday. As much about vampirism and fetishism as it is about a dwindling marriage, the flick is a rare silent pleasure, harking back to the days when creating films was more about experimentation than making money.

SHORT CUTS #3: THE SOLDIER

The-Soldier-Pic.-1Over the past few years, Nazis seem to be finding their way into more films then ever before, regardless of the genre. Mentions of the regime have turned up in the most unlikely of places; Kate Winslet won the Oscar for her portrayal of a Nazi in THE READER, Samuel L. Jackson and Scarlet Johansson in full dress in THE SPIRIT, Brad Pitt and Eli Roth battling them in Quentin Tarantino’s extremely anticipated INGLORIOUS BASTERDS, not to mention the Norwegian horror/comedy mash-up DEAD SNOW. SHORT CUTS #1: CHAINSAW KISS

VICTOR BONACOREThe minute I got the go ahead for this blog, I e-mailed Victor Bonacore hoping to score a sit down. After meeting at the LA FANGORIA Weekend of Horrors in early 2008, I had quickly become a fan of his short films, and I wasn’t the only one. Not only has Bonacore won praise from numerous critics for his shorts PRETTY and EAT ME (which have found distribution in the UK), they have been screened at festivals around the world. Most recently, his music video for Johnnie Lee Jordan’s THE WIGLY premiered, garnering early raves for his unique take on the love song. Infusing his work with a rare blend of horror and romanticism, and recently founding the production company ChainsawKiss, Bonacore is determined to expand his work. And with 2009 seeing the completion of no less then three shorts, he is truly a talent to look out for.
