Its me, Marla once again blogging about the short film. I just can’t help it. I love the short filmmakers – especially the good ones. And what recognition do they get? After heart and soul poured in – not to mention cash – they do get some accolades and then they go into posterity. Thus, in order to keep things fresh I feel a desire and an obligation to keep them alive. Mind you, I have not met a quarter of the 100 or so filmmakers with whom I have corresponded. But I did meet Rafael De Leon this past weekend and I am such a fan of his short film Wilted that I just had to write a bit about him.
Ok, ok…so everyone and their brother are going to write about their experience this past weekend – oh and to clear it up – I am referring to our just-wrapped FANGORIA's Weekend of Horrors – located in my great hometown of New York City!
I met Patrick Rae at the Chicago Weekend of Horrors back in 2007. Though I'd already known his work quite well, that was the first time we'd met in-person. At the time we were working on Fangoria TV and Patrick’s films were featured regularly to our lineup. I was taken then and continue to be taken with his fantastic sense of what short films are and can be. Naturally we exhibited Patrick’s short films numerous times over the years – not only on our website – but at almost every Fangoria Weekend of Horrors Convention since 2006.
