What the Hell is going on in Kansas? An interview with Patrick Rea

NAILBITERI met Patrick Rae at the Chicago Weekend of Horrors back in 2007. Though I'd already known his work quite well, that was the first time we'd met in-person. At the time we were working on Fangoria TV and Patrick’s films were featured regularly to our lineup. I was taken then and continue to be taken with his fantastic sense of what short films are and can be. Naturally we exhibited Patrick’s short films numerous times over the years – not only on our website – but at almost every Fangoria Weekend of Horrors Convention since 2006.

GAY OF THE DEAD 14: FINAL DESTINATION and DAY OF THE DEAD screenwriter, Jeffrey Reddick

JeffOne of the nice things about being a gay horror filmmaker is, after you hang around awhile, you realize you’re part of a nice little club. And eventually, it feels like you all know each other.

I first met Jeffrey Reddick at a cast and crew screening of one of my films. Paul (HELLBENT) Etheredge-Ouzts brought his friend “Jeffrey” to the screening, and we chit-chatted a bit afterward. On the way home my brain added up all the stuff we talked about, and suddenly it clicked—Was that the writer of FINAL DESTINATION?

Terrifyingly Gnarly #14 - CHUD gets it right/Weekend of Horrors

chudsitelogoI’m sure many of those who visit the Fango site can agree with me or share the fact that I don’t only love horror. While horror speaks to me and gets me more excited than pretty much any other type of film, I am an all-around lover of movies and all-around nerd for them. One of the sites, I visit without a doubt multiple times a day is CHUD, and it’s because they love everything and walk the finest line between all-out geekdom and intelligent looks at the power cinema holds. They know their shit, and they know it well.

EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW: Dylan Bank and Morgan Pehme talk about the surreal horrors of NIGHTMARE

nightmare_posterWhen it comes to horror movies, I know lots of stuff but I’ve never claimed to be cutting edge. That’s usually because I’m so busy mining the past and revelling in vintage terror trends that I often miss the current product when it first sees the light of the projector beam or small screen. But that’s okay. To paraphrase Charles Foster Kane, they’ve been making horror films for over 100 years and I’ve only been watching for 30.

A FRIGHTMARE in Texas: Part II

TEXAS FRIGHTMARE WEEKENDI know you all have been waiting in stitches for Part 2 of my not so in-depth coverage of Texas Frightmare Weekend 2009 (read part 1 here). Well, boils & ghouls the wait is…over. The reason for the delay has been the fact that I have been repeatedly reassured that footage I shot for the Convention (where I attempted to be an on camera host in order to interview rockabilly goth girls) would be edited and sent my way. Unfortunately, dear readers that has not occurred. I will never outsource to India again!
