ABOUT FANGORIA®

For almost 30 years, and spanning four decades - FANGORIA has been bringing readers the best in horror entertainment...

FANGORIA® #1 - 1979FANGORIA® was launched in 1979 as a sister publication to the successful STARLOG® magazine. Whereas STARLOG's main focus was in Science-Fiction, FANGORIA was intended to focus largely on the realm of fantasy and horror. The first batch of issues reflected this, with Issue #1 featuring Toho's famed GODZILLA on it's cover, and subsequent issues featuring STAR TREK, THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK and other sci-fi fantasy subjects on their covers. By Issue #7, the FANGORIA we know and love began to truely take shape, with it's heart fully staked by the world of Horror Entertainment. With a cover featuring a now-iconic image of Jack Nicholson in THE SHINING, horror enthusiasts had their interests piqued.

Leading the charge into the 1980's and the rise of the slasher film and franchise horror, FANGORIA continued to GOREZONE #1grow - issuing several compilations of the "BLOODY BEST OF FANGORIA", along with poster magazines, trading cards, and movie-tie-in specials. The FANGORIA name had become synonymous with HORROR. With the rise of genre popularity, competition began creeping in, and FANGORIA was quick to react with spin-offs such as TOXIC HORROR and the fabled GOREZONE. While the spin-off titles and the competing mags didn't last very long, FANGORIA slayed the pack and continued to carry the torch for horror fans everywhere.

The 1990's brought an expansion to FANGORIA's WEEKEND OF HORRORS CONVENTIONS, and saw the debut of Fango's GOREZONE Video Label. By the decade's end, FANGORIA was online with a robust online community to usher in the new millenium.

In summer 2008, FANGORIA and all of it's related brands were purchased by THE BROOKLYN COMPANY, INC., led by longtime Fango Family member Thomas DeFeo.  As the new publisher of the magazine, DeFeo ushered in an era of renewed focus on the content that made FANGORIA great.

With the 30th Anniversary of the first issue just around the corner, the future is bright for FANGORIA. Launching an all-new online community  and magazine re-design on Halloween, 2008 - FANGORIA will usher in 2009 with all-new installments of the WEEKEND OF HORRORS in three cities - NEW YORK, CHICAGO, and LOS ANGELES - along with all new content for FANGORIA RADIO, FANGORIA TV, FANGORIA MUSICK, and the re-launched FANGORIA GRAPHIX.

While times may change, FANGORIA is here to stay.
