Calling up comparisons with her celebrated father David may be too easy a jumping-off point in addressing Jennifer Lynch’s new film SURVEILLANCE, but it’s an unavoidable one—especially given that David is credited as an executive producer. But the younger Lynch comes into her own as a filmmaker with this movie (currently available via video-on-demand and beginning limited theatrical play from Magnolia Pictures this week), which should also dispel any lingering memories of the hostile reception that greeted her debut feature BOXING HELENA over 15 years ago.

Magnolia Pictures has announced that its Magnet Releasing arm has picked up the U.S. rights to THE HOUSE OF THE DEVIL, the new feature written and directed by Ti West for MPI Media Group and Larry Fessenden’s Glass Eye Pix. The movie has been winning strong response at festivals, including the recent Tribeca Film Fest in New York; see our review from that event here.

Here at FANGORIA, horror runs in our blood, and sometimes in our families. Case in point: Brian Weaver, nephew of longtime magazine contributor Tom Weaver, recently completed his first feature, THE TURNPIKE KILLER. Along with co-writer/director Evan Makrogiannis (the two are teamed under the Hallows Eve Films banner), Weaver has finished a new edit of the movie, which will be shown this Sunday, June 28 (doors open at 7:30 p.m.) at Queens, NY’s Hell Gate Social (12-21 Astoria Boulevard between 12th and 14th Streets). Weaver also gave us a first look at the latest poster, which you can see below.

The Big Bear Horror Film Festival, presented by Evil Kitty Productions, will take place in scenic Big Bear Lake, CA on October 16-18, 2009. Out, gay Festival Director Michael Coulombe is teaming with Festival Coordinator Jamie Kristen to bring horror to the idyllic mountain resort town. I've spent many summers up in Big Bear, and if you decide to make the trek into the mountains, you won't be disappointed by the scenery (and I'm assuming the films!)

Variety reports that Lars Von Trier's ANTICHRIST will get a limited theatrical release in New York and Los Angeles on October 23rd - two days after it is set to debut on IFC's Video-on-demand service.
IFC, the biggest buyer at this year's Cannes Film Festival, snapped up the psychological erotic-horror title during the fest. Pic, which has sexually explicit content, stars Charlotte Gainsbourg and Willem Dafoe. Meta Louise Foldager produced and Peter Aalbaek Jensen and Peter Garde exec produced.

Since the film is still almost 10 months away from it's release, there is still plenty of time for updates.
