Mr. Kaufman Goes to Washington

Lloyd KaufmanI recently traveled to the halls of Congress in Washington DC to speak at a forum hosted by Congresswoman Diane E. Watson (D – California) and Media Fusion for a discussion on the key issues that impact the independent film and media industry.  My remarks took place in Congress’ Rayburn Building in one of the hearing rooms where I warned against the evils of media consolidation by the MPAA and major conglomerates and discussed how we, the people, need to keep the internet free, open and diverse.

Lloyd Kaufman feels the power of the MOTORHEAD

LEMMY KILMISTER and LLOYD KAUFMANWhat does Lloyd Kaufman have to do with Lemmy Kilmister from legendary rock band Motorhead?

We're not sure either, so you'll probably have to ask them yourselves. But, Lemmy did contribute his words to Lloyd's new book, DIRECT YOUR OWN DAMN MOVIE!, the latest release in his long-running "Your Own Damn Film School" series.  In place of Lloyd's normal blog this weekend, we're giving you a look at a scan of a Fax sent from Lemmy to Lloyd from a London hotel room last September. What was happening in said room can be left up to your imagination. Check out the evidence below the cut.

Lloyd Kaufman: Obama and Infrastructure of the Mind

January 20, 2009, marked a day which will forever be etched in the minds of those who had the privilege of witnessing it.  A significant part of American history transpired: Barack Obama became the first half-black man to be sworn in as President of the United States since Warren G. Harding.  As a privileged, Jewish Yale graduate who grew up as a dirt-poor black boy, I was very excited for this momentous occasion.

Lloyd Kaufman - Snow Balls: Post Script

Back in the summer of 1983, I decided to perform a science experiment of sorts. As a Yale man, I had a thirst for knowledge. The world was full of marvelous questions which I found necessary, as a searcher of truth, to answer. And no question plagued my mind quite like, “What would happen if I were to leave a package of Hostess Snow Balls on my bureau for 25 years?” This was the next step in the evolution of experimentation. Newton, Einstein, Kaufman – I was on my way to the history books. I ran to the local corner store and purchased the marshmallow-covered cakes.

Tiger Beat & Torture Porn: A Reflection

Greetings from Tromaville!

I don’t get it, I just don’t get it.  I’m stunned, shocked, staggered.  For the first time in my highly-celebrated and sexy 40-year career, I’m flabbergasted!  Where to begin?  Where to start?  Well, let’s rewind to three weeks from last Friday.  I was visiting the local movie theatre in hopes of writing a 2-page spread on HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL 3 for Tiger Beat Magazine.  Thirty minutes into the Zach Efron tour-de-force, I was thrown out after learning that you can’t sing along to movie musicals in a public place…wearing nothing but a top hat.
