Q1 Radio Revenue Tumbles 24%, But Digital Shows Strength

Local radio revenue fell 26% to $2.35 billion when comparing the first quarters of 2008 and 2009. With national revenue's 27% tumble to $473 million, combined local and national sales were off 26% to $2.83 billion, according to the RAB.

Becoming 'Mega 95.5'

R&R has learned that Clear Channel is indeed flipping smooth jazz WNUA/Chicago after 22 years in the format -- but, contrary to popular rumors, the station is going what's described as Spanish hot AC as "Mega 95.5."

Details regarding the flip were posted on the Chicago Tribune's Web site late Thursday (May 21) night, which said WNUA morning talent Ramsey Lewis will sign off in the 9 a.m. hour on Friday morning (May 22), followed by an audio montage of 95.5's history over the years before rolling into 5,000 songs commercial-free in the new format at the frequency-related time of 9:55 a.m.
