February ABCs: Daily Star rises, Independent slumps

The Daily Star, which has cut its price to 20p on weekdays and 30p on Saturdays, was the only national daily to see its circulation increase year on year in February.

The Star, which was also the only national daily to rise last month, increased its circulation by 7.85 per cent year on year to 780,742.

It was also the only paper to increase circulation month on month, up 1.59 per cent.

Elsewhere, The Independent – currently cutting 60 journalists’ jobs, and moving offices, in a bid to save £10m – fell 18.41 per cent to 205,964.

The Daily Mirror fell 11.59 per cent year on year to 1,326,628, while The Sun – comfortably the country's best-selling daily - dropped 3.99 per cent to 2,954,298.
