FANGO FASHION Profile: Redbuttafly

triciapainFashion is about making a statement. It visually explains who you are and what you’re about, and if you are anything like me, you want that message to be heard LOUD and CLEAR. Redbuttafly designs do just that. Founded and run by two best friends, Lola and Stephanie, Redbuttafly creates designs for women of all shapes and sizes, mostly using materials that have some type of give or stretch, and can accommodate all body types.

photo12It is really refreshing to know of a company making clothing with such women in mind. Way too many designers seem to create their clothes for toothpick thin women, which results in unflattering cuts and styles for those of us with curves. I often find that I will buy an article of clothing from a designer that may be made in my size, but it’s obvious the design was created for a super thin woman. Don’t get me wrong, thin can be beautiful too, but I personally have curves and I don’t want to rock a dress that flattens my chests and hides my butt.

One very unique design definitely worth checking out is their series of layered patterned skirts at various lengths; some with ruffles some without. They have a fun jester look to them, and could be dressed up with heels and a corset, or dressed down with some flats and a tank.

MayteAliceinWonderland_2_emRedbuttafly doesn’t seem to really have a specific look to label it by. They combine so many types of styles, such as Spanish flamenco, anime, zombies, pirates, renaissance, Lolita, and graffiti culture. Lola, the designer, has explained that the Redbuttafly collection may be viewed as “a bit schizophrenic,” and that description is quite fitting. But why should anyone have to stick to one style? I certainly don’t. Sometimes I wake up and feel like rocking some beat-up bondage pants and a cutoff tee, and the next day I want to doll myself up like a pin up queen. That’s the fun of fashion, the art of expression, and the act of being an individual.
