Press Gazette own and produce an annual calendar of acclaimed events that recognise and celebrate journalism and visual excellence in print, broadcast and online media. The portfolio of events include:

The British Press Awards

This is the prestigious flagship event that celebrates the very best in journalism across the national press. Honouring the finest journalists and newspapers in the land for more than 30 years, these are the only awards voted for by their peers in a two stage rigorous and transparent judging process. The highly coveted Newspaper of the Year is judged using an Academy style mechanic. The evening is attended by 800 guests and will be held 31 March 2009 at Grosvenor House.

The lunchtime ceremony takes place 8 May 2009.

Student Journalism Awards

These awards reward journalistic excellence in the new generation and help kick-start careers in a competitive industry. Established six years ago, the awards are dedicated to students studying specifically to be journalists and the 10 awards, covering print, broadcast and online, are presented at a ceremony in June hosted by Reuters.

Magazine Design and Journalism Awards

Founded eight years ago, the Magazine Design Awards celebrate the creative minds behind the industry's best-designed titles and is the only event of its kind. In 2006, a sister event, the Magazine Journalism Awards was launched to bring the whole magazine community together. Both awards recognise the industry's wealth of creative visual and editorial talent across consumer, customer and business to business publications.

Update: details to be announced in July for 2009.

Media Law Conference

The Press Gazette Media Law Conference has been running since 2002.

Other speakers will be drawn from among the most expert barristers, QCs and media lawyers in the country as well as some of the leading journalists working in this area.

PRCA Awards

The PRCA Awards, now in their 28th year, provide a showcase for the best work in UK public relations and public affairs.

In 2008 ithe awards were opened to in-house communications departments as well as to the PRCA's 150 member consultancies.

PR awards are important. Not only do they recognise excellent work and the teams who perform it, they also give the industry annual benchmarks of best practice. Awards raise standards.

Moreover, clients and high-flying practitioners use awards as a signpost: who to hire, where to work.

Details for this evening ceremony will be announced June 2009.
