Get Creative. It's Child's Play!

Friday, October 3 2008

Do you remember back when you were in first grade, in kindergarten, and anything was possible. You could fly, you could jump across rivers and see through walls. You might be an astronaut or the President of the United States. As time passes, we lose those thoughts.  Thoughts of “I can do anything I want to”. I’m not sure what happens. But I know most of us lose our sense of wonderment, of “WOW”. Things become black and white instead of subtle shades of grey.

A lot of people I talk to confide in me that they have difficulties trying to sell themselves or their products. This is what I always try to remember.

If you retain your appreciation of and your faith in the unknown and of “what if”, if you tap into your curiosity rather than succumb to your fear, that’s magical. And magic is tangible. I want you to find it. If you can tap into it, every person you meet will recognize it.

It’s a very unique quality, the ability to be okay with all that you don’t know. And it’s an even more powerful tool.

We think that we have to have all the answers and that everything needs to be just perfect. It’s more interesting if it isn’t. Find the child in you and don’t let go of the wonderment. When you do tell your story (it matters not if it’s to the press, to a friend, or to someone you’re pitching) having that sense of enthusiasm and wonderment is going to come through. And people want to identify and experience that wonderment. It’s attractive and likable. It will make it easier for you to express yourself and make connections. It will become easier to tell your story.

Tap into it.
