When Ernie Fletcher gets to Papa John’s Cardinal Stadium for the Governor’s Cup football game between Kentucky and Louisville, the first thing he should do is look up Tom Jurich. He should ask the U of L vice-president for athletics if he could spend a week following him around and picking his brains.

Horror becomes personal when it hits close to home, especially when home isn’t a very big place. Here in Kentucky, our tragedies are almost a family thing. At the least, many of us know somebody who knew somebody who was on Comair Flight 5191 when it took off at 6:07 a.m. Sunday from Lexington’s Blue Grass Field.

Time to End Child Beauty Pageants

But what made me happiest was that the State Fair doesn’t sponsor a child beauty pageant. I thought those things were sick long before the JonBenet Ramsey case. Now I know they are. In fact, I would support a movement to make beauty pageants illegal for anybody under the age of 18.
