As seen through the eyes of doctors and patients who, as Jack points out, have more in common then they're willing to admit, MENTAL also tracks the romantic and personal relationships of the team of doctors and hospital staff who work closely together as they delve into the mysteries, oddities and wonders of the human brain.

CHRIS VANCE as Dr. Jack Gallagher
Chris Vance is best known for his role on "Prison Break" as mysterious inmate "James Whistler" whom "Michael Scofield" (Wentworth Miller) was forced to break out of a deadly Panamanian prison.
Vance was born in London, England, and grew up in Bristol. He graduated from the University of Newcastle upon Tyne in the north of England before returning to London. From his first job playing "Paris" in "Romeo and Juliet" in Oxford to various roles in the London Fringe, Royal National Theatre and other theater companies throughout the U.K., his acting skills were finely honed on stage. His British television appearances include "Kavanagh QC," "Peak Practice," "The Bill," "Doctors" and "Family Affairs."
In his late 20s, Vance moved to Australia and divided his time between Melbourne and Sydney. His Australian acting credits include the long-running medical drama "All Saints," as well as "Stingers," "The Secret Life of Us" and "Blue Heelers." He also appeared in Arclight Films' feature "Macbeth."
Vance currently lives in Los Angeles.
Character: Dr. Jack Gallagher
A dynamic, young, and radically unorthodox psychiatrist. He is named Director of Mental Health Services at a Los Angeles hospital and turns the medical institution on its ear. Everything changes as Gallagher's radical methods and ideology inflame the staff and upset the system as a whole.

DEREK WEBSTER as Carl Belle
Derek Webster's resume includes credits in film, television and theater. In addition to a recurring role on FOX's "K-Ville," Webster has guest-starred on "Boston Legal," "Eli Stone," "The Nine," BONES, "The Shield" and "Nip/Tuck."
His film credits include "Godzilla," "Sweet Jane," "Independence Day" and "Stargate." On stage, he has been lauded for performances as "Lucien" in "The Boys Next Door" and as "Prospero" in "The Tempest."
Webster is a member of the Neurotic Young Urbanites, a Los Angeles-based theatre troupe, and a graduate of the California Institute of the Arts. He lives in Los Angeles.

Dr. Carl Belle is a master politician with a polished exterior who is dedicated to Jack's downfall.

ANNABELLA SCIORRA as Nora Skoff
Annabella Sciorra earned an Emmy Award nomination for her highly acclaimed performance as "Gloria Trillo" on "The Sopranos." Subsequent credits include a 12-episode stint on "Law & Order: Criminal Intent," as well as appearances on "The L Word" and "ER."
Her film credits include Sidney Lumet's "Find Me Guilty," Michael Cuesta's "Twelve & Holding," Spike Lee's "Jungle Fever," Curtis Hanson's "The Hand That Rocks the Cradle," Anthony Minghella's "Mr. Wonderful," Abel Ferrara's "The Addiction and the Funeral," Noah Baumbach's "Mr. Jealousy," Mike Figgis' "Internal Affairs," Barbet Schroeder's "Reversal of Fortune" and James Mangold's "Copland."
Sciorra's additional film credits include "What Dreams May Come," "Romeo Is Bleeding," "Domenica," "Whispers in the Dark," "The Night We Never Met," "The Hard Way," "Once in the Life," "Chasing Liberty," "King of the Jungle," "Cadillac Man," "The Cure" and "Sam The Man." For her leading performance in her film debut, "True Love," Sciorra received an Independent Spirit Award nomination for Best Actress.
Her New York stage work includes appearances in Joseph Papp's productions at the Nuyorican Poets Caf?, where she worked extensively with writer/director Reinoldo Povod. She has also performed in "The Vagina Monologues" at the Westside Theatre and in "Under the Blue Sky" at the Williamstown Theatre Festival.

JACQUELINE MCKENZIE as Dr. Veronica Hayden-Jones
Jacqueline McKenzie graduated from the prestigious National Institute of Dramatic Art in Sydney, Australia, also attended by such Hollywood luminaries as Mel Gibson, Judy Davis, Geoffrey Rush and Cate Blanchett. She made her screen debut in "Romper Stomper" opposite Russell Crowe.
McKenzie is more recently known to television audiences from her starring role in "The 4400." She also costarred with William H. Macy in "Umney's Last Case," which was part of "Nightmares & Dreamscapes: From the Stories of Stephen King." She appeared alongside Holly Hunter and Ron Silver in the TV movie "When Billie Beat Bobbie," and guest-starred alongside her good friend and fellow Australian, Anthony LaPaglia, in an episode of "Without a Trace."
Her recent film credits include "Opal Dreams," "Human Touch," "Preservation," "Peaches," "The Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood," "Eisenstein," "Kiss Kiss Bang Bang" opposite Stellan Skarsgard and "Deep Blue Sea" opposite Samuel L. Jackson and Thomas Jane. Other features include "Mr. Reliable," "Under the Lighthouse Dancing" and "Angel Baby," for which she earned awards in Australia and at numerous international film festivals.
As one of Australia's most highly regarded theatre actresses, Jacqueline has enjoyed rave reviews for her performances as "Joan" in George Bernard Shaw's great classic "Saint Joan" and as "Catherine" in David Auburn's Pulitzer Prize-winning play "Proof," both at the Sydney Opera House. She also played "Rita" in the Williamstown Theatre Festival production of "Educating Rita" opposite Edward Hermann and directed by the late Bruce Paltrow. She also starred alongside Al Pacino, Steve Buscemi, Billy Crudup and Paul Giamatti in "The Resistible Rise of Arturo Ui."
In addition to her varied acting career, McKenzie is a painter and singer-songwriter. She contributed a song to the original soundtrack of "The 4400."

MARISA RAMIREZ as Dr. Chloe Artis
Marisa Ramirez is best known by millions as the spirited supermodel "Gia Campbell" on the daytime drama "General Hospital." In 2001, she was nominated for both an NAACP Image Award and an ALMA Award for Outstanding Actress in a Daytime Drama Series.
Ramirez began her career at age 13, when a snapshot of her found its way to a top Los Angeles modeling agency. Soon, she was traveling the globe as an international fashion model. Upon returning home to California, Ramirez pursued acting and quickly landed appearances in several high-profile music videos, including Will Smith's "Wild Wild West," Lenny Kravitz's "American Woman," Backstreet Boys' "As Long As You Love Me" and Jordan Knight's "Give It To You." Shortly thereafter, Marisa was tapped by MTV to co-host "Senseless Acts of Video."
Her additional television credits include "The Young and the Restless," "Roswell," "USA High," "The Bold and the Beautiful" and "Days of Our Lives."
In addition to acting, Ramirez is involved in several charitable causes, including those for animal rescue, Cystic Fibrosis and HIV/AIDS awareness, prevention and education.

Dr. Chloe Artis is drop-dead gorgeous with an attitude and very strong opinions. She's passing time in a residency she feels is beneath her until Jack opens her mind to the inspirational benefits of psychiatry.

NICHOLAS GONZALEZ as Dr. Arturo Suarez
Over the course of three seasons, Nicholas Gonzalez has gained national exposure for his portrayal of "Alex Santiago," a handsome medical student turned boxer on "Resurrection Blvd." He has also appeared on such television shows as "Grey's Anatomy," "Ugly Betty," "Brothers & Sisters," "The Ghost Whisperer," "Close To Home," "Law & Order: SVU," "Raines," "That 70's Show" and the Emmy Award-nominated "American Family."
In addition to his success in television, Gonzalez continues to build an impressive r?sum? of theatrical films, working alongside such respected performers as Peter Coyote, Bruce McGill and Keith David in 20th Century Fox's "Behind Enemy Lines II"; Cuba Gooding Jr. in Sony Screen Gems' "Dirty"; and Morris Chestnut in Sony Screen Gems' "Anacondas: The Hunt for the Blood Orchid." He also worked with Joe Mantegna in "My Little Assassin."
Nicholas holds a bachelor's degree in literature from Stanford University. A native of San Antonio, Texas, he resides in Los Angeles.

Dr. Arturo Suarez is a first-year resident. While young and cocky, but good at his job, he actually gets a charge out of Jack's unorthodox ways.

EDWIN HODGE as Malcolm Darius Washington
Edwin Hodge's acting career began in the Tony Award-winning revival of "Showboat" on Broadway. After heading to Los Angeles, he quickly landed a role in the TV movie "My Teacher Ate My Homework," for which he received the Young Artist Award.
Hodge has appeared in the television series "Angel," "7th Heaven," "Grounded for Life" and "Boston Public." Other television credits include "Grey's Anatomy," "Invasion," "Jack & Bobby" and "Cold Case."
His feature film credits include Imagine Entertainment's "Young Americans" opposite Topher Grace, Dimension Films' "All The Boys Love Mandy Lane," Touchstone Pictures' "The Alamo," MGM's "National Lampoon Presents Dorm Daze" and New Line's "The Long Kiss Goodnight." Hodge resides in Los Angeles.
