The Xecuter PS3 Hyperdrive rocks!

Man, the folks at Team Xecuter are quick. Not content with offering great mods to the Xbox 360 community, they've set their sights on making something for Sony's new flagship console. Of course, if you know Team Xecuter, then you know it's got something to do with connecting more stuff to your PS3.

Their new product is currently codenamed the Hyperdrive, allowing users to connect 3.5" SATA hard drives to their PS3. While they haven't tested the upper limits of their new project, they have confirmed the connection of a 750 GB hard drive onto their console, which should definitely bring in a lot of options once a full-fledged PS3 homebrew and modding scene develops (if people can only find more units, that is). While working on the Hyperdrive, however, the team is also planning to send out an adapter for people to connect with, so that those who really want to get into the spirit of things can do so without any extra waiting.

Here's the pertinent feature information from their announcement. Feel free to send them some love on their forums, alright?
  • Connect any 3.5" SATA Hard Drive to the PS3
  • Developing ability to connect IDE hard drive
  • Supports up to 750GB (maybe more thats all we have here)
  • Switch between external HYPERDRIVE and internal 2.5" HDD HYPERDRIVE USB2.0
  • Support to dump data to/from HDD

When you connect the system announces the drive requires formatting etc and then promptly begins to prep it. All system settings are unchanged so they are stored internally to the PS3 and not on the HDD.

Give it time and Sony will win because of there hardware.

Sonys software stinks right now both firmware and games but both can be fixed.

Stuff like this is next gen. Paying 99.99 for a 20gb HD with 7gb over head is not. Regardless how good gears is. Its one game.

Dammit guys.

Remember what happened when we had enough room for psp games on our psp memory sticks? the games got pirated and then "oops we've decided not to develop for the psp any more."

What good can come of this? This whole "homebrew/modding scene" is really starting to piss me off, cause they ruin it for everyone else.

 » hmm no

Well since the developing stopped I guess Giatroo Man Lives and the Powerstone Collection didn't come out about a week or two ago and Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops won't be coming out this wensday... oh wait PSP is still going quite strong for what some call a doomed system.

 » Spector..

allow me to rephrase it.

LESS companies are developing for the psp, partly because they'll not make any money off of it because it's a "doomed"/"failed" system, but partly because... "if one person buys the game, then they'll copy it and then we won't make any more money off of it."

not saying all developers think that way, but you have to believe that some of them do...

so to rephrase...

"Oops we've decided to develop LESS games for the psp now."

You can't blame the homebrew scene for the pirating problem, it's not their fault, it's the idiots that upload and download that you can blame

60g is well enough!!! it's a gaming console man, even with the best homebrew you'll never fill 750g!!!

if we can have a ps2/gc/xbox emulator... maybe, but that's all, and it's not like we're gonna see it soon!

the fact that ps3 supports linux and 750Gb drive means its only a matter of time before we start using Iso to play game...and if someone manages to burn the iso to a blu-ray disc....that mean sony will make billions of dollars buy selling the blu-ray license to 3rd party makers....the fact is there are millions of people in the middle-east...parts of china and russia and many other locations that use pirated software...those are people that never buy official products and buy hundreds of pirated games and movies....if sony make a few cents from every blu-ray disc slod there....theyl make a fortune....they wouldnt be shooting themselves in the foot since those markets don buy official products anyway....so sony will get extra coin from sellin the blu-ray disc blanks in HUUUUUUUGE quantities....the game is over...sony wins....NEXT

 » Nice twist.

Yup, 750gig + 20-30 BluRay games and a few movies. Also 20gig games is about 2-4days of constant downloading time on the average broadband connection (300bps). That alone should deture the majority of people out there that think PS3 is a free gaming Console.

» 20 gigs isnt that much.

I can down about 4.5 gigs in a couple hours from rapidshare.com or rapidshare.de's servers. I've found bittorrents to be a joke. I really dont use them that much anymore. Only for certain things.

All Sony needs to do is come out with some good games and they will kill the 360 soon enough. Who the heck wants to buy an ugly external add on for HD movies. Come on Microsoft come to your senses. Actually dont, Microsoft sucks.

I am however wating to buy a ps3 until I see any hardware bugs are worked out, ie. heat issues. Highps3 your absoulutely right, firmware and software bugs can always be worked out and the ps3 simply destroys the 360 in hardware stats.

 » Ps2

ill rather have them find a way to play ps2 and ps1 games on the ps3
.....then they can leave the ps3 games, but i doubt it beacuse somebody will want to play free ps3 games

   by Broken_hero (Unregistered) - 2006-12-03
 » concerning free games

Yes Dakid....there are people who want to play Free ps3 games...as i mentioned in my previuos post once the iso files are burned in a blu-ray disc[there are already blu-ray burners and blu-ray blanks out there] millions of games and movies will be sold in the unofficial markets i mentioned above....no they wont download it from bittorrent or rapidshare...i said once the isos are burned to a disc...sony will make billions from the billions of the blu-ray disc blanks...and those markets never buy official products anyway.....Trust me it happened with ps2...it will happen with ps3..i have hundreds of free ps2 games and movies and can buy another hundred..and it never affected the ps2 succes....
