Stafford appears on Letterman's 'Late Show'

NEW YORK -- Detroit Lions top pick Matthew Stafford appeared on Monday night's Late Show with David Letterman, reading the Top Ten list.

The quarterback, who starred for three years at Georgia, was taken with the first pick by the Lions in the NFL draft Saturday. Stafford will try and help the Lions overcome the first 0-16 season in NFL history.

"If the Lions win one game this year, I'm a hero," Stafford joked on the show.

Detroit desperately needed a quarterback to help turn around a team which has had the worst eight-year stretch in the league since World War II.

Why the O line won't be important this year:

Stafford won't play a down!

Thats right Donte Culpepper will be scrambling like a mad man.  Stafford will watch and learn for a year.  Learn the playbook, the game, and what not to do from Donte.  If the Lions win 4 games it will be a miracle.  I am a ...(more)

Stafford and Sanchez should be personally thanking Sam Bradford and Colt McCoy for not coming out this year. Because if they did, then neither of these two QB's would of got selected where they did.

The guy hasn't thrown a touchdown pass and already he's more famous then Tom Brady and Peyton Manning.

I hope the guy turns out to be a bust, so I can continued to laugh at the Detroit Lions jus

Question is, can the O line keep him off his duff?  As bad as that team was last year, I'm surprised the didnt pass on Stafford and grab one of the premier linemen.

really? why would he be doing tv shows instead of learning the playbook? this is exactly why there needs to be a rookie cap, he is clearly suffering from an inflated head. he should b doing somehting else more relevant tot he team instead of this. im not gonna sit here and say the Lions are doomed this year due to this, but so far this does ...(more)

Most often I do not take issue with articles that are written. However, how is this any kind of a story worth taking the two minutes it took to type? Are they next going to tell else what he ate for breakfast, what his first purchase was with his signing bonus money?

Come on. This story is not even worth space on the webpage.

What kind of stupid comment is that?  Trust me Matt....as a Lions fan I don't think that is funny.

This kid will be picked over with a fine tooth comb. I hope he has the gonads to tough it all out. plus, it's not like he is the one missing piece of the puzzle. That team has many areas of opportunity.Good luck, Matt.

Was JaMarcus ever on the Letterman show when he was drafted #1?
