A Blessing for the Jewish New Year of 5765
To all the Jewish People,
Righteous Gentiles and Lovers of Israel--Shalom!

WB01405_.gif (2208 bytes)

It is customary to meditate on the numerical significance of each new Jewish year. The upcoming Jewish year, starting on Rosh HaShanah, is 5765. Traditionally, Jewish years are referred to without the thousands, so this year will be known as '765.

One of the verses that we recite before we blow the shofar on Rosh Hashanah is (Psalms 119:160):

The beginning of Your word is truth (emet),
and the laws of Your justice are eternal

Our goal is to awaken the point of truth in our souls

Our goal every day of the year, and particularly on Rosh Hashanah is to awaken the point of truth, emet, in our souls. This point of emet is the point of our deepest, essential connection to God, HaShem emet, to the Torah, Torat emet, and to the true tzadik, tzadik emet, a truly righteous person. A tzadik is someone who has succeeded in fully overcoming the evil inclination of his animal soul, has converted its potential into good, and who dedicates himself to spiritually elevating his people.

The source of this connection in our souls is our deep and unconditional love for God, which is concealed in the heart of every Jew. When we connect to the true tzadik who walks in the ways of God, this point of love in our souls is aroused, and begins to "walk" as well. It transforms to a line, to the desire to fulfill God's commandments even before we understand them (na'aseh v'nishmah) and to walk in His ways.

On Rosh Hashanah we nullify ourselves first to God Himself and only afterwards to His will

Chassidut explains that this transformation is the Divine service of Rosh Hashanah -- to nullify ourselves first to God Himself and only afterwards to His will. We accomplish this service specifically by nullifying ourselves to the tzadik with great love. When we serve God in this manner we merit to hear the new Torah revealed by the tzadik emet, and our line of connection to God and to the tzadik develops into a broad and infinite "area" -- the manifestation of the infinite and essential expanse of the Divine.

All the above is alluded to in the letters of the new year, tav, shin, samech, hei, which equals 765. 765 is the numerical value of:

  • ahavah ("love," which begins with an alef) = 13,

  • mitzvah ("commandment," which begins with a mem) = 141,

  • Torah ("teaching" which begins with a tav) = 611.

Emet, spelled alef, mem, tav, is an acronym for these three words.

In this year we must work on and develop our essential point of "love" (ahavah) for God and our bond to Him by connecting to the walking, "line" aspect of the tzadik and the fulfillment of God's "commandments" (mitzvah). Then all of reality will become pregnant ("Today is the conception of the world," from the Rosh Hashanah prayers) with the light of new "teachings" of the Torah with the imminent arrival of the Mashiach, and will be transformed to the infinite expanse of the Divine.

May we be inscribed and sealed for a good and sweet year,

Gal Einai Dollar-a-Day Program.

In Kabbalah and Chassidut we learn that God is all and all is God. He is everywhere -- in every facet of our lives.

Our challenge is to discover God and to connect to Him in all that we do.

The more that this consciousness prevails, the closer we will come to the revelation of Mashiach. The light of God's loving-kindness will permeate the world, bringing health, happiness and true peace to all.

As Rosh Hashanah -- the Jewish New Year approaches, it is clearer than ever that spreading the inner dimension of the Torah is our urgent goal.

We invite you to join the Gal Einai Institute team and play an active role in spreading the Torah’s inner light. Your contribution of one dollar a day will give you the daily merit to participate with Rabbi Ginsburgh and the Gal Einai Institute as we disseminate the inner dimension of the Torah to all corners of the earth.

Together we can illuminate the world and bring the Mashiach!
