The Pacific
War Changed World History

The Pacific War, that began at Pearl Harbor in Hawaii on December 8, 1941 (the Second World War) changed the history of the world. The United States of America, the victor of this war, became a world superpower, but soon entered the Cold War against USSR (Russia) to gain world hegemony. At the same time, though the USA won this war, she lost all her rights in China, the protection of which had been her main motive for her hostility against Japan preceding the war. On
the other hand, Japan was defeated, but gained "the liberation of Asian
nations" from Western colonialism, which had been her calling to the
Asian nations. Indonesian
and Burmese independence were achieved by Japanese soldier's support. "The abolition of racial discrimination" that Japan insisted on at the Paris peace conference after World War One became true now. I also feel the ideal of the Manchurian empire that had called on harmonious coexistence of many ethnic groups, is coming true in the European Union. Japan, which was defeated in this war, achieved great recovery and became a major economic power in the world. However, I'm sorry to see that it is becoming a slovenly and discouraged country, for which I feel amnesia and departure from traditional ethical values, as represented in bushidou , is responsible.
