You don't have to leave New York for a taste of Africa. From traditional Ethiopian dishes to innovative Afro-French fusion cuisine, chefs are cooking up noteworthy fare in Fort Greene.
The Zagat Best of Brooklyn guide suggests two locations for a culinary tour de force of the world's second largest continent. And both spots are B.Y.O.B.

Zagat says traditional Ethiopian dishes, many of them vegetarian, abound at this tiny, warmly lit arrival. Surveyors praise the affordable, health-focused fare and fans call the décor "laid-back." Although just recently opened, the guide says It's already drawing swarms of locals.

Surveyors say the "large-hearted magician" of a chef produces "serious gourmet takes" on French-African fusion dishes. Fans praise warm service and wallet-friendly prices. The guide adds "if you can find it," this "small" bistro with no sign out front makes a "welcoming, wonderful" discovery.
Out of a possible 30, Abistro gets 26 for food, 13 for décor and 23 for service. Dinner costs about $31.
