One unemployed New Yorker is turning unemployment lemons into lemonade with the help of a new blog. NY1's Asa Aarons filed the following report.

For many people, unemployment is like waking up in bizarro world -- all things are in reverse.

A skilled trade that took years to learn is no longer needed. Contacts, experience and education -- who cares?

"I got my MBA in 2005 and since then I've been laid off from three jobs. The most recent of which was in October," said Norm Elrod, a recently unemployed New Yorker.

That was when Elrod decided to work at, well, not working.

"I thought what do I really know about, and the thing I really know about is being laid off multiple times," said Elrod.

He turned his experience into "Jobless and Less", a blog for the 'employmentally challenged.' Readers check in to find out about Norm's latest trip to the market or the apartment that got away because of his lack of income.

It's not just writing essays. Norm says the blog has opened his eyes and his heart.

"I would hear about someone losing their job or their home and say well they didn't do whatever. Now I hear from those people firsthand, when they reach out to me I can feel they are scared," said Elrod.

The blog includes links to other sites and information for the unemployed. But the main attraction seems to be Norm's amusing, and illuminating take on a serious issue.

The day he discovered even while unemployed he'd been demoted again, new income guidelines kicked him out of the middle class.

Norm says he's frequently contacted by fellow travelers -- the jobless kind.

"There are a lot of people out there who are hurting, they contact me to share. I can't get them a job, but I can make them smile," said Elrod.

In another twist, the ultimate goal for "Jobless and Less" is to go out of business, because the owners is too busy working to run it.

"I hope people will check out the site, see my work, and if there are any openings, I'm happy to pursue them," said Elrod.
