General
Info
Q When did Cambourne start
– and when is it planned to be finished?
A Cambourne was first
conceived and planned in the 1980’s – however
it took until Spring 1998 until work actually started on site.
It is difficult to estimate precisely when Cambourne will
be finished as there are so many variables – the best
estimate is probably between 2008 – 2010.
Q
How many houses will Cambourne have? What is the population
estimated to be on completion?
A
Cambourne currently has planning permission for 3,300 homes – this will give a population somewhere in the region of 8-10,000 people.
As part of South Cambridgeshire District Council’s proposed Local Development Framework there are proposals to build an extra 700 homes. These homes would only be built on land already designated as housing areas by South Cambs.; therefore no green open land will be used. The vast majority of the extra homes would be accommodated in Upper Cambourne, which is as yet un-developed.
Q
Is there affordable housing at Cambourne?
A Yes, Cambourne has
a wide variety of homes to suit all circumstances. Around
30% of the new homes at Cambourne are built as affordable
housing. For more details please visit the South Cambridgeshire
District Council website link on the ‘cambourne links’ page.
Q
Where can I go to find out more information about Cambourne?
A
The Cambourne Project Office is happy to answer any specific
questions (Tel 01954 719438), as are the individual sales
negotiators serving each of the show homes at Cambourne. The
website links shown throughout this site will also provide
further information.
Education
Q As a resident of Cambourne
will my child be given a place at one of the two primary schools
and Comberton Village College?
A
The primary schools are for the residents of Cambourne, and your child will be given priority – so far every child has been accommodated. For older children Comberton Village College has been enlarged with the help of funding from Cambourne and children from
Cambourne are within the catchment area of this popular school.
There is a coach service between Cambourne and Comberton Village
College.
Q
Are there plans for a secondary school for Cambourne as the population increases?
A
Currently there are no plans for a
secondary school; the County Council has excellent provision
for this age group at Comberton Village College.
