GameSpy looks back at the year 2000 and pays homage to the best of the bunch. By The GameSpy Staff Diablo II Blizzard Entertainment After bidding his time for many years, Diablo returned with a vengence to squash PC sales record under his clawed feet. Everyone had to hack and slash their way through four acts, defeating thousands of monsters. To keep you addicted, Blizzard Entertainment let you amass powerful, random, magical weapons, armor, and items. You developed your character from one of the five classes, by developing their skill trees in combat and spell disciplines. For the real badasses, there was nightmare difficulty, and hardcore play, where death was permanent. Although Battle.net had some growing pains, Diablo II was the title for bashing monsters to bits with your friends. Diablo II Essentials: Vampire: The Masquerade - Redemption Nihilistic Software and Activision From Dracula to Buffy, people have always been fascinated with vampires. Based on the Vampire the Redemption pen and paper RPG, Nihilistic developed the 3D third-person bloodsucker. As the former knight Christof Romauld, you try to restore your humanity, by traveling to Vienna and Prague in the medieval ages and London and New York in a modern era, after being embraced as a vampire. On top of these interesting twists, Vampire has the unique storyteller mode that allows one of up to four players to be a dungeon master during a multiplayer game. Although less powerful and intuitive than hoped in Vampire, the involvement of a storyteller is clearly a future direction in RPGs. Vampire Essentials: Next: The 2000 Game of the Year... |
