HR Director/HR Manager
Red Herring magazine is seeking an experienced HR Director/HR Manager with a minimum of seven to ten years of professional HR Management/Generalist experience and a passion for being a leading-edge Business Partner. Reporting directly to the CEO, the HR Director/HR Manager will lead and provide complete human resources strategy and support for all areas of the company.
Job Responsibilities:
- As a strategic and hands-on business partner, you will develop, drive and implement HR strategy, programs and processes across all functional areas of the company to ensure corporate goals and objectives are successfully met.
- You will help steer the company through an exciting growth phase and manage the entire change/organizational development process. You will also play an integral role in developing Red Herring’s evolving corporate culture.
- You will lead workforce planning and recruit for all open positions in the United States, China-Beijing and Zurich-Switzerland.
- Develop attractive, efficient compensation programs and structure to ensure internal and external competitiveness. Assist Finance with stock option administration and incentive bonus plans.
- Be responsible for Red Herring’s performance management review process and ensure recognition and retention of high performers.
- Develop career paths for all positions and specific training and development programs to ensure our employee resources are maximized and reaching their full potential. Plan and develop appropriate management training programs and executive teambuilding to take our leaders to the next level.
- Provide employee relations support and guidance to employees and managers.
- Administer and plan benefits strategy for the entire company.
- Ensure legal compliance with all local, state and federal labor laws.
- Develop and maintain web-based HRIS system and create management plus ad-hoc reports as necessary.
- Maintain our employee files and all appropriate recordkeeping. Other miscellaneous HR duties as necessary.
Job Requirements:
- Minimum of 7 to 10 years experience as a HR Director/HR Manager, ideally in a publishing/media, technology or start-up company setting.
- Candidates should have strong HR knowledge in the following areas: staffing, compensation (domestic and international), benefits, organizational development, training and development, management coaching, teambuilding and employee relations.
- Strong business partnering experience with the ability to influence/guide the executive and management team in making the right decisions for the company.
- Possess the flexibility to be a strategic business partner while being hands-on and doing what is needed to get the job done.
- Successful candidate will possess strong interpersonal, communications, time management, change management, decision making, presentation and organizational skills. Fluency in multiple languages a plus.
- Be able to work in a fast-paced work environment, embrace and foster change, problemsolve, multi-task and thrive on variety.
- BA/BS Degree in Human Resources, Business or other related field. Masters Degree or MBA a plus.
- PHR, SPHR Certification is a plus.

Reporters/Editors
Red Herring magazine is seeking experienced reporters/editors with a minimum of five years of professional journalism experience and a passion for covering innovation. The reporters/editors will write for an international audience and tackle projects for both an annual print magazine and web site.
Job Responsibilities:
- Write daily news and magazine stories for our print and online editions.
- Follow a beat or beats closely and produce original trend, analysis and enterprise stories.
- Develop multimedia content including slide shows, blogs, videocasts, and podcasts for our rapidly growing web site.
- Get to know the movers and shakers of Silicon Valley and beyond.
- Speak at industry conferences and moderate panels at Red Herring events.
Job Requirements:
- Have a minimum five years of professional journalism experience.
- Be comfortable reporting on public and private companies.
- Have experience explaining new technologies to a smart, informed audience.
- Posses the flexibility to write sharp, analytical articles and breaking news from their beats for both print and the web.
- Be able to work in a fast-paced work environment and thrive on variety.

Account Executive/Sales Associate: Executive-Level Customers
Red Herring is seeking an experienced Account Executive/Sales Associate to join our Conference/Events Sales team. The Account Executive/Sales Associate will develop market demand for the company's conferences and media ventures globally.
Job Responsibilities:
- Develop the global market area and product lines to maximize sales revenues and meet corporate objectives.
- Identifies growth potential and develops products in serving the global technology and venture capital industries through events, consulting and publishing.
- Establishes effective and trustful relationships with chief executives in the technology and venture capital industries to ensure proper sensitivity to our products and services.
- Performs sales activities on executive accounts and negotiates conditions of deals through the head of sales.
- Will be involved in operations in the US, Europe and Asia and participate in creating new products in the near future.
Job Requirements:
- 4-year degree in business or technology-related field required.
- Typically also requires 2 or more years of experience in dealing with top-level corporate customers and/or in technology business setting.
- Excellent selling skills.
- Broad knowledge of global technology markets and developments.
- Effective self-management skills with ability to plan and execute a major contribution to the company's field operations.
- Successful candidate will possess strong interpersonal and organizational skills and fluency in multiple languages.
- Excellent time management, communications, decision making, human relations, presentation and organizational skills.
- Requires broad and in-depth knowledge of global technology business and venture capital market dynamics as well as local experience while dealing with executive level customers.
