First wave of Virtual Console games revealed

Nintendo says gamers will have 30 downloadable Wii games to choose from by year's end.

While Microsoft, Sony, and Nintendo are asking gamers to shell out for the next generation of gaming experiences, all three companies recognize that there are a number of people willing to spend money on previous generations' gaming experiences, as well. Microsoft's Xbox Live Arcade has been offering retro titles since the system launched last year, and Sony recently detailed its plans to offer original PlayStation games for download on the PlayStation 3.

Nintendo had already announced the Virtual Console and some of its publishing partners, but today the company laid out the first wave of titles, 30 in all, to be available by the end of the year. The games (listed in full below) will come from Nintendo, Sega, and Hudson.

The company also reiterated the starting price points for the games, noting that NES games start at 500 Wii Points ($5), TurboGrafx-16 games at 600 Wii Points ($6), Super NES and Sega Genesis games at 800 Wii Points ($8), and Nintendo 64 games at 1,000 Wii Points ($10). Wii Points will be available online or at retail in packs of 2,000 with a suggested price of $20.

hmmmmm, question for all : do anyone know if nintendo even read our concerns?? or is there a website we can e-mail them and make our voice's heard?? or is this a babbling site to vent out on what we wish they would add on to the virtual console. I find myself reading from most of you guys on here good interesting game titles, how we as a gaming community can reach out to nintendo??? going to www.nentindo.com dont work so it must be a better way to get their attention.

why in the h.e.l.l. nintendo dont add contra and r-type shooting games to the list. it would make sense to add a big popular game on the virtual console better yet a up graded version on dis.

I just want to know why they don't have Super Metroid on the list. You can't play it on any other system than SNES, so it's not portable like Metroid II. The least they could do is make it readily available to play via, Virtual Console, the way it was put into Metroid: Zero Mission and Metroid Prime.

Nintendo is really letting us down on the VC content. That they are charging anything at all for those crappy NES sports games and Mario Bros. is pretty sad. All of that effort could have been put into Super Mario Bros.

Fewer titles, more good ones. Bastards.

My request: Shining Force I and II and Shadowrun from the Genesis. And some Top Gear action from the SNES.

Goldeneye and Perfect Dark WON'T be available. Microsoft acquired Rare for the disappointing Perfect Dark Zero. Also, EA Games has the rights to Bond. There's a legal double whammy preventing Goldeneye from appearing on the Virtual Console.

I dont think is a ripoff.
I would enjoy playing old school games with my gamecube(or the other control).
Another Plus is the Fact that you dont need to buy the other systems.
If you have the old school systems then the virtual console is not worth it but for the rest of us who had been looking for a NES or SNES to play these old school games and couldnt find one, here is our opporunitty.
I dont mind paying 8$ for Super Mario World, or Mario64.

Ha! Still have my working N64 and a great supplier of used N64 games. No need to spend 10 hard-earned dollars on an N64 game! Though, I'll probably be spending a lot for games from other consoles, hehehe. I wonder, will any Dreamcast games be offered?

    In Reply to fierro316's comment,

While 8 dollars may seem like a lot to pay for a 16 bit game compared to 20 titles for 20 bucks I believe you are thinking about it in the wrong context. Nintendo plan is to release as much content as possible from multiple previous generation consoles. What this means is rather then being forced to play the greatest NES hits 20 pack for 20 dollars to get perhaps one game you hold dear you can pick and choose the individual titles you want. This is a premium service that is a lot like video on demand where you are not forced to play what developers decide to release in there predetermined packages. I would rather pay 8 dollars for my favorite classic games then 20 for a mish mash of ok-good games.

Pure milkage, you can buy the Sega Genesis collection, that's 30 16 bit games for $20 and they are selling each 16 bit game for 8 bucks? what a ripoff.

I think people need to calm down about the line-up.
It is a good initial line-up and there will be more to come.
You can't expect them to have everything available at launch because it is just not feasible.
They do have a NEW console to support after all. They need time and money to devote to it.
