Fango-fright at the EASTERN HAUNTERS CONVENTION

PUMPKIN?For Part I of our EASTERN HAUNTERS Coverage, we have a blog and photos from Mistress Bekah. Check back all week for Exclusive Video! We'll be posting one clip a day through Saturday!

Happy spring holidays everyone! This is a wonderful time of year full of rabbits and celebrated traditions and Halloween. Oh yeah! This weekend I got to celebrate Halloween in April. I traveled to Valley Forge, Pennsylvania for the Eastern Haunters Convention. With my Fango road buddy Ian David in tow (who was super psyched to be recognized by a fan there), we toured haunted houses, checked out the latest development in “scare” technology, sampled FX make-up, and met the people you turn to every Halloween to scare the hell out of you.

I-CON 28: Elves, Zombies, & Ninjas - Oh My!

iconkidsAn elf, a zombie, a rabbi, and an anime ninja walk into an all-purpose gym. OK, so there’s no punch line, but it does sum up my weekend. This past weekend, FANGORIA traveled to Long Island for the 28th annual I-CON Convention. Though small compared to the New York Comic-Con or FANGORIA's Weekend of Horrors, I-CON does have a great deal of charm and personality all its own.

After setting up our booth, I journeyed out into the sea of vendors and costumed fans to see what I could find. Glancing over the convention schedule, I realized that FANGORIA was the ONLY horror company there! I had my work cut out for me, spreading the word of Fango and representing the entire horror community by myself.

Shred Sledding through Toy Fair

April is quickly approaching and so is our convention season. With the Eastern Haunters in Pennsylvania, ICon in Long Island, and Fango’s own WEEKEND OF HORRORS in both LA and New York all coming up, the next few months should be especially busy for the Fango crew. As I’m still recovering from February's Toy Fair, I decided now would be a good time to take a belated look at some of the stand outs from the convention.

NYCC '09: The Day Two Blog

The second day of the New York Comic Con has ended, and I have had an exciting and busy day. I began by touring the con with Fangoria TV, including video producer Ian David and Managing Editor Mike Gingold. We ran into Michael Graves, former lead singer of The Misfts, and now star of the new After Dark horror film PERKINS 14. We also got a moment to speak with 30 DAYS OF NIGHT writer and comic book legend, Steve Niles.

FANGORIA INVADES NEW YORK COMIC CON 09

Hey, horror fiends! Mistress Bekah here, fresh from a long but awesome opening day at the New York Comic Con. Still recovering from yesterday’s interview with Takashi Miike, I was overwhelmed by a day full of fun, great fans, and some excellent horror talk.

The Mystery of Edgar Allan Poe and the Doubtful Dorm Room

Happy Holiday recovery season, horror fans. It’s that special time of year, when we try to return to the normal routine of life after the chaos the Holidays always provide. For many of us, the Holidays are a whirlwind tour of every town in America, where the most distant of relatives happen to live. I hail from newly blue state of Virginia.

Virginia is a land of history and tri-corner hats. Many an important person did many an important thing and wrote a bunch of important stuff on important yellow paper. The most important of which, according to horror fans, would have to be Edger Allan Poe. While visiting Charlottesville to see a particular cousin whose relation I still question, I learned that somewhere hidden in the mass expanse of the University of Virginia was the dorm room of Poe himself.

One From the Vaults

I hate turkey. I’m not big on that wet, mushy bread called stuffing, and green bean casserole turns my stomach more than any horror movie ever could. Happy Thanksgiving! Ever since I moved away from my parents’ house way back when, Thanksgiving has always represented a time of visiting family, seeing high school “friends” I was never actually that good of friends with when I was in high school, and spending the rest of the time on my parents’ sofa somewhere in between the LAW AND ORDER and MATLOCK marathons. I decided to make this holiday a little different, and instead of the coma-like couch time, I decided to spend my spare moments building my horror movie collection.

Taking a big bite out of the BIG APPLE CON

big_apple_venom_and_bekah“Pins and guitar picks are free! And be sure to grab some info on our upcoming conventions!” I must have said these lines at least 800,000 times this weekend.  Hey fiends, Mistress Bekah here, manning the Fangoria booth at The Big Apple Comic Con at Penn Pavilion in New York City, and in between the costumed “Venoms” asking directions to the bathroom and fielding questions that go way beyond my comic book knowledge, I thought I would take a second to write a blog.

It’s the GREAT PUMPKIN …. Art Show!

I always loved carving pumpkins. I was never very good at it, but there was something visceral and alluring about plunging the knife into the orange flesh and scooping out the stringy pumpkin guts. Every year I approach my pumpkin with the utmost artistic intent, my imagination running wild like a painter approaching a blank canvas. I always plan for it to be scary and to terrify my neighborhood, but no matter how brilliant the pumpkin looks in my mind, my artistic skills never advanced beyond a 5th grade level, and somehow my pumpkin masterpiece always turns into two triangle eyes and a very nonsymmetrical smile.
