System Requirements

  • A computer with any modern operating system (i.e., Windows and Mac) that supports the playing of MP3 files
  • Any iPod that supports color photography
  • iTunes installed on the computer
  • Fast internet access (not dial-up) if you wish to download bird songs/photos

Your Responsibility

Please use your birdJam responsibly. Birds sing to mark territory and attract mates. When you broadcast a bird song, the bird that responds may be neglecting other duties such as feeding nestlings or scouting for predators.

Immediately quit playing the call once a bird responds. If you are in a heavily-birded area, we suggest you refrain from calling in birds and never to attract rare, threatened or endangered species.

I saw the ads for BirdJam in Bird Watcher's Digest, saw the ads on site, and decided to give this a try. I'm only a beginning bird watcher, and am still learning how to identify the birds I hear during my travels. It's fun and challenging, trying to match the bird songs with what I've heard outdoors. Having the song files on my iPod makes it easy to switch from one bird song file to another.

I definitely recommend it to anyone who is familiar with using an iPod. The only thing to be aware of is that you must have an iPod or have iTunes installed on your computer to see the images. If you don't have and iPod or iTunes, you can still listen to the bird songs on your MP3 player (either hand-held or on your computer), but the images won't show up. It would still be very useful for the main purpose, though (quick and easy access to bird songs).
