BioShock 2: First image of Big Sisters

Big Daddy's missus spotted on mag cover
The first image of BioShock 2's widely rumoured Big Sisters has emerged, via the latest cover of US mag Game Informer.

With a full reveal not quite upon us yet, little is known yet about the female Big Daddy. But according to vague hints on 2K's viral website, the mysterious critter(s?) is responsible for a spree of mysterious kidnappings of young girls in coastal towns along the Atlantic, seven years after the original BioShock.

Inevitably, it looks like we're going to have to return to Rapture to get the little gits back.

Sea of Dreams is due to be unveiled in the 200th issue of PC Gamer out on April 9, it's teased. In the meantime, check out this Big Sister pic.

And for the record, we can't wait (except for Mike).

Can't wait for this game - I'm replaying PS3 Bioshock to collect more trophies and I'm loving it!

awesome. suddenly the teaser site makes alot more sense. Wonder if there's still going to be big daddies in the bioschock 2 or if the big sisters are going to be a straight replacement for them.

Can't wait.

This is very interesting, very interesting indeed. I like the design of the Big Sisters, in the original Bioshock it did look a little unnatural that Big Daddies that big could move so fast, but this new design solves that. I don't like the head though, looks like one of those things you incinerate at the end of Portal and I want originality from the Bioshock series. But I'm glad Bioshock 2 is finally being revealed and what I'm seeing is very promising. :D

gonna replay the first once the 2nd has a official date this year

same here. got a couple achievements left to get. Think i'll play it on hard.

I'm absolutely F*CKING miffed. Following the announcements on the viral site I decided to go back and have a crack at the Brass Balls achievement on the 360 (turning off vita-chambers on hard). Because I'm excited, I'm sure you know how it is.

Its only bloody glitched. Absolutly no way of getting the achievement now until another patch is released, according to web reports.

I think I may buy the PS3 version instead, combined with the extra features and survivor mode it looks mighty tempting.

Sill though, FUMING!

I am kinda expecting the Big Sisters to be able to bound around the screen making it very hard for you to get a good shot at them. Like the special forces people in the original Half Life.

I am glad it's not a prequel. Jack would probably not have explored all of Rapture considering it's size. As for the power struggle between Ryan and Fontaine, it's reasonable that someone else would be waiting for their opportunity to take over when the field is clear. Hmm.. I wonder if Tenenbaum has any involvement in this game.

best ****ing art design i've seen on a character. i loved big daddy but big sister might just steal my heart.

@KHR0NIK

I know how you feel. Nothing worse than an achievement that doesn't work!

I completed the whole of Half-Life 2 (Episode 2) dragging that bloody gnome to the rocket. Nestled him safely inside at the top and launched it into space. Nothing! Microsoft, you owe me 40 points!

Dear christ I feel your pain. I actually have that achievement, and getting it nearly turned me off the game entirely. Why oh why was there no passenger door on the bloody car? The amount of times I'd drive 100 yards only to have back track and dig around the bloody bushes for that sodding gnome...

ASDA is selling PS3 version for 14 quid.

Given we are calling them big sisters does anyone else think they could be the original little sisters from the first game.

given we were told in the game that for the Adam to be properly harvested it had to be young girls doing it what would happen when they got older, they would be useless as harvesters and would have to find a new girls to be the little sisters but given they would still have the resistance to damage from all that adam they would be perfect to be turned into the next guardians.

just an idea it would also match up with the size as if you take away the suit they wouldn't be fully grown and the adam might have improved there reaction time/speed etc over all that time.

this is all assuming that either some were left behind (good ending) or the bed ending happened or maybe an alternative like Ryan survived by resurrecting into another chamber etc after you left.

thats my theory what do you think?

2K handled the furor over the limited activations so poorly for the first one on the PC that I have zero faith and trust in any new Bioshock title. I'm glad I didn't buy the original one and I still won't despite repeated claims that the limited activations and DRM issues have been solved now. Let that be a lesson to all developers/publishers. As the old saying goes, "Fool me once shame on you. Fool me twice shame on me".

Yeah, you put him in there, but did you close the hatch? Now that, is the million dollar question.

Invest in a console. I know you've got a powerful PC rig, but you're missing out on some good stuff.

Little daddies!

I'm still not convinced about the sequel. Without Ken Levine's input, it'll kinda be like Resident Evil 5 without Shinji Mikami. I hope I'm proved wrong though.

From what I understand, that would work.
Posted by WHERESMYMONKEY
I quite like your theory , it works. But it was my understanding that little sisters couldn't grow up. Also anybody could be turned into a big daddy it was a horrible process that basically fused people to the diving suits.

But as i said i do like your theory. just some food for thought.

The trailer sort of suggests that an older little sister wanted to return to rapture.

well we know that even if you harvested all the little sisters in the game there were more that were saved (i.e the ones in the orphanage and that come to help you at the end) these wouldn't have the slugs but would have been exposed to massive amounts of Adam in there time and would start growing from then . so they could be the big sisters in this.

the idea that the girls being taken are the daughters of the little sisters is a bit sick in that these were 5/6/7 y/o's at the end of the first game i.e 1960 there would still be at most 14 when this game starts old enough to be molded into the suits but not old enough to have 5yo daughters unless they are taking shock value in a completely different way (ugh)

whichever ending that play from good bad etc or make up something in between to play from and i'm sure there is a way to run it around to this plot, i.e little sisters who decided to stay in rapture or got left behind and someone(a resurrected Ryan either he survived by reviving a in a secret vita chamber or he was cloned from dna and memory imprinted in the vita chamber) took control after your original character went.

either way it all seems to fit that the big sisters were some of the little sisters from the original game

as a side note the girls being taken might be genetically engineered like the main character from the original game and put in orphanages until they could be taken back at the right ages (i.e clones of the original little sisters which is why they all look similar)this could have been to make the more efficient or girl/hybrids that would create there own Adam (second generation more efficient who knows)

Just my theory expanded more

Not yet. Maybe next gen.

I think Bioshock 2 has a better chance at being great than Resident Evil 5 did because the Lead Designer of Bioshock 2 is the guy that designed Fort Frolic from the original Bioshock and Fort Frolic was by far the best level in my opinion. So Bioshock 2 is in pretty good hands. :D
