This is my real bug bear with the PS3. Why is it so slow to download and install anything? I went to play LittleBigPlanet the other day and I thought I'd download the the update (the one with the picture thing I will never use in it!) and it took ages, then to top it off I then had to update LBP! 30 minutes from start to finish!
Yesterday I got GT5p 30-40mins before I could start playing!
My xbox sitting along side it (also using WiFi) took around 10mins max to do the NXE.
Don't get me wrong apart from this the PS3 is very good but why does it seem I have to wait an age to play anything! :evil: It would be great news if there was. I'm sure it is only a matter of time - and is probably the only key feature of PSN that is missing.

Ps. Have you joined a clan yet on Killzone 2? This is my biggest problem with the PS3 as well. both the firmware and game updates take bloody ages compared to the 360. when i went to play some COD:WaW on saturday it took me about 30 mins to download and install the update and by then my mates had given up and signed out. at least the latest KZ2 update was pretty quick.
i'd be happy if we could at least do these as background updates so we could at least do something with the machine instead of it idling for half an hour while we're just sitting there twiddling our thumbs. add cross game party chat into that and i'd be a happy man Get a guitar. That's what helps me through the idle times! Either that, or throw a quick one off the wrist. Not just me then. Maybe it's a consipiracy, as it's about the time I use my PSP! I actually considered turning the PS3 on an hour early once so it would be ready when I wanted to play! »well seeing as how i use the PS3 for porn a quick hand shandy's out the question (would have only wasted a few minutes anyway :lol: ). **** sake.

Whilst I was downloading Siren, I managed to learn the whole Coldplay 'Parachutes' TAB guitar book. I could have actually played live with them I was that good at it! Mind you, there are lots of things that you can do in 8 hours.... How dare we say something bad about your life support.
No one is moaning about the free update, what we are saying is that its as slow as hell.

every time theres wind of an update (making your free service BETTER) all the toss pots all come out the woodwork and talk shit about it.
maybe you all spoiled by the far superior service of xbox live. maybe your all just spoiled brats and dont understand the meaning of 'free'.
you would think they are making the service WORSE. whilst waiting for your download i suggest switching on the xbox 360 and play that for around 5 days and then the ps3 update should be ready! easy! lol. I use my PS3 much more than my 360 now but downloading game updates is really starting to annoy me. i have major problems with them although everything else through the PSN is fine. I generally have to sit and restart the update about 10 times before i can get the download to work. does anyone else have this problem. Two points.

2. If you honestly believe that some of the cash you spent on acquiring a PS3 didn't go into securing the PSN, you are deluded. Therefore, PSN isn't 'free', it just doesn't have a subscription. we aren't talking shit about it. we're saying that the updates just take too long. 1/2 an hour to update a game is just too bloody long. as i said if we could do them as background downloads it'd be fine but instead we've got (according to you) the vastly superior console sitting there doing bugger all.
if you want me to start getting really moany about it here goes, its shite that if you want to watch a film, blu-ray or dvd, it stops downloading whatever demo's your doing at the time. i started the Wanted and Legends Of Wrestlemania demo downloads on friday night and so far i've only done the wanted one because as soon as i do anything with the PS3 it stops these downloads. sure i can set it up to switch off when its finished downloading but i ain't leaving my PS3 on all night. and you can't say any of that is shite cause its all fact. I think that problem occurs as soon as an update is made available, with so many people battering the servers at once. I tend to wait a while before I download a new update and rarely have that problem. The only time it happened to me was on Gran Turismo P. Man, that update was a real 'mare.
My last update was for Killzone 2 and it only took about 20 seconds, if that. yeah the Killzone one only taken me a minute or 2 tops. but then again i think that was just a small file. the COD one was at least 130MB Why's everyones kudos at 1 again? i really miss not having party chat because i dont want to have to listen to bleeps and clicks cos of other peoples rubbish quality headsets, then if youre in a game of 32 people on killzone 2 it takes forever to mute them one by one. thats my main gripe of PSN and id have a lot more respect for it and be fighting the conrner for it more and for live to be free. apparently my friend has the official headset and is very happy with the chat quality on it so that looks like a must have purchase on payday (next tuesday) along with a different new controller for my ps3.

must be giving himself 50 lashes just now with his Dual shock charge cable in repentance. :lol: I've offical headset and it's a good piece of kit. Comes complete with its own recharge stand and all. I picked it up before Christmas for £17. Sound quality it good and it's simple to set up. An essential for Killzone. You need to tell all the dumb *****s not to crowd around a doorway before someone throws a grenade at them. When someone kills 7 of them with one grenade you can all them dumb *****s for the rest of the game. servers were down for a wee bit but everything seems back to normal again to those moaning about download speeds.... Have u ever thought of getting a better isp? And sayin xbox is much faster is bs took me 7 hours to dl gta:latd yesterday. Ever thought about getting a better ISP?
;) i have 20mb Virgin Broadband and the PS3 is ethernet cabled.
we're not saying the download speed of demo's are any different, its the actual updates for games and the firmware that take ages. and that they leave the machine in a state that you can't even go play something else whilst your waiting. plus if you are downloading a demo if you play a game or watch a film it usually stops downloading until you go back to the XMB.
and the GTA:LatD content only taken me 3 hours. just need to get my copy of the game back off my mate to play it now. Yeh but im contracted for another 10 fooking moon so not much i can do about it for the time being.

and i intend to tonight if the little ginger pr!ck turns up with it instead of forgetting like he has done all last week I cant see how they could speed it up tho. It must be slow for a reason... I mean its sony there not going to running crap servers are they?
The lost's club house is ace and you do the missions with the whole gang in tow (i have so far anyway) which is alot more fun than goin in solo. Some nice new mini games added and i read somewhere that gang wars are back (like in SA) which im really happy about.....ahhhh i cant wait till 5'o'clock with internet browsing and maybe chat whilst in a game left to do... that's my psn happy and free! right off to kick ass on kz2 - goddamn ISA yanks and helghast frenchies!!!! As so many are quick to point out, the PSN is free whereas Xbox Live generates Microsoft something ludicrous like 20 million quid a month. So, while I wouldn't use the term 'crap', it's distinctly possible that those servers are quite as optimum as Live ones are.
I'm not suggesting this is definitely the case, but I think it's foolish to believe that Microsoft aren't ploughing some of that cash back into the Live infrastructure. dunno the ins and outs of it, just know it can be bloody slow. and i know nobody wants to hear it but when you update on a 360 you'd be lucky if it takes more than 30 seconds so they should be able to speed it up somehow.
and the LatD does sound brilliant. though the gang wars always annoyed me in San Andreas by going off when i was either on a date or just about to start a mission. hopefully its not as bad as Roman phoning you up every time you go to do something important There's something just not quite right when the Helghast have German accents. After the first one, Gang Wars are optional. Plus, I only got about 3-4 calls from his friends wanting to hang during my entire play-through. »thank **** for that, that was the only annoyance in San An for me. as for GTA4 i know you used to be able to put the phone on silent and nobody would phone you. is this still possible in the DLC? I got it an hour after it was released and at took about 20 minutes. My 20MB cable, wired from my router to my 360 normally downloads about 8 - 12 Mbps, depending on the time of day. When downloading iplayer stuff on my PC, it usually comes in at between 12 - 16 Mbps.
It's weird that the PS3 seems to struggle with updates, but not general gaming and game downloads. The gang wars are basically a set of side missions, or an interesting online play mode.
It only took me about an hour to download L&D on launch day, must have gotten lucky.
All Sony need to do to make downloading stuff a hell of a lot better on the PS£ is to make it able to other things at the same time like you can on the 360.
BTW i was rather impressed with the legends of wrestling demo. There was something kind of satisfing about having aundre the giant win the championship from Hogan. »»
