Hosting your theme at WordPress.org
Now that your theme is ready for prime time, give it plenty of attention by
uploading it to the WordPress.org
Theme Directory. By hosting it here you'll get:
- Stats on how many times your theme has been downloaded
- User feed back in the forums
- Ratings, to see how your theme is doing compared to others
The goal of our themes directory isn't to have every theme in the world, it's to have the best. WordPress is Open Source, and all the themes we host here are Open Source. If you want your theme to be proprietary or promote things that violate WordPress' license on your site, the directory probably isn't the best home for your work.
Checklist
A checklist for theme authors is being developed at http://codex.wordpress.org/Theme_Development_Checklist.
Here are some guidelines for theme submissions:
- A single zip file, with all of the files themes file included.
- A style.css file containing:
- Name (unique to the directory)
- Tags
- Version (in the format of x.x or x.x.x and be unique to the theme)
- Align classes: .alignright, .alignleft, .aligncenter (see
http://codex.wordpress.org/CSS for more details)
- Include a screenshot file,
screenshot.png, and be a
real screenshot of the theme, not a splash screen.
- A GPL compatible license.
- No hidden, paid or sponsored links in the theme. Links back to the
author's site are fine.
- Expose RSS feeds
- Support Gravatars
- Support widgets
- Show post categories and tags
- Show the blog title and tag line
- The theme is your own original work.
- Adult/mature themes are not allowed.
All themes are subject to review. Themes for sites that support non-GPL (or compatible) themes or violate the WordPress community guidelines themes will not be approved.
