I wish I could have joined FFXI since the beginning since I would have been able to join all my friends but I wasn't able to get to play it till I got my PS3... Being absolutly new to the game is really hard since very few people actually help new players get ahead. It was fun, just wish that doing solo stuff was easier.

Just in case people were wondering yes i had a 56 theif 36 ninja 28 war with relic armour for the theif character. And i must say if you are at all interested in playing FFXI DON'T! Unless you have absolutely positively no life, and are willing to dedicate hour after hour after hour to really accomplish very little and pay month to month for it. This game is just not worth it. The story takes way to long to unfold, and you experience it in very short intervals. You often have to grind for such a long time that you forget the story and characters which pretty much makes it suck. The combat takes forever and the cookie-cutter class system is ridiculous and unforgiving. I WILL say however that this game requires some actual skill (or at least did) to play. To accomplish things like Skill chains and Magic bursts you had to have a well put together party of individuals who knew what they were doing. But this is the internet we're talking about here and when i was playing this game (6 years ago) it was definitely not filled with talented people. I played this game for 1200 hours and regretted about 90% of it
I played WOW up to level 70 in Burning Crusade (took 400 hours) and let me just say it is a VASTLY superior game especially because i solo'd most of it (which is what i prefer). But i'm done now with ALL MMORPG's because they are some of the most un-fulfilling games of all time, created for the sole purpose of sucking all of your time and money in a never-ending process of grind. So WOW is really just the best of shit imo.
Stick to non-online games because it will run you way less money and you actually get a sense of accomplishment when it's finished and you can put it away! lol
P.S. I still love the FF series and respect Squares hard work, just really really disliked this game :/
two words for this game ARDUOUS GRIND.

Despite what people say, this is a pretty good game. Yes, you require a lot of time to grind levels and such, but that's what a lot of RPG's do, right? Anyways, the grind to get from 1-10 can feel like forever, but after 10 is when you can start going to look for a party. Trust me, stick with it, it only gets better. You'll meet a lot of people and make lots of friends.
If you do end up getting this, you could join my server. I play on Asura and I'd be happy to help you get started. :) My name in FFXI is the same as my name here on GT. :P
